@deniset4 That SAT score may not warrant merit aid. Performance in high school is tricky depending on how they view the rigor of that school. Keep in mind that most accepted students have equivalent profiles or more so.
@lovemycats Did the financial aid office tell you $25K for NMF? If so, that’s a game changer for DS. URochester is his number one choice but we’ve been struggling to make the financials work.
@ m0mr0cks We called them to notify them & asked what we needed to do. The just said send an email. He did this & received an email back saying if he declared them #1 on NM he would receive a minimum of $25,000. He doesn’t know if he is accepted yet & we do know he has until May to declare #1 school. Im not sure if this $25 is guaranteed. Have you been accepted? we are still waiting.
@lovemycats, Yes, DS was accepted in early February. We don’t qualify for need based aid. He received a $20K renewable merit scholarship that he was invited to apply for. Thanks to your post, he called the financial aid office this morning and was told he would receive $25-30K NMF by naming URochester #1. Thank you for the tip! If he’d known this up front, he probably would have applied ED and saved us a lot of grief!
@swimswam, DS is a swimmer too, and is very excited about URochester. He is coming from Nevada.
Is this in additional to financial aid? Or did they adjust that as well? I only ask because next year I will have 2 in college so the individual etc is lower, but the following yr I. will only have 1 in college. My older one may go to grade school but we don’t know.
Need based aid is separate from merit scholarships. My daughter received Dean’s scholarship and a little bit of need based aid (small grant and work study for having 2 in college for next year). But the year after that our need based will go away, but scholarship stays. Also, grad school doesn’t count in their calculations for need based (only under grad).
The first Friday of March is here after a really long quiet on the admissions front. The admissions office is about to open for business at 8 am. I am literally keeping my fingers crossed that I receive a decision today! I hope everyone aboard the same boat as me hears ASAP. All the best everyone.
