U of R Class of 2023 Applicants Discussion

@sugarbelle Of course! Glad I could somewhat help haha

@clairejal Did you get a merit award? Curious, since my son has similar stats and legacy profile.

@MelioraScott merit hasn’t come in the mail yet but I will post when it does !! hoping for one… UR is soo expensive

@clairejal FWIW, we got $18k from the Early Connections program (he did a pre-college program). They give the highest amount from whatever ones you qualify for.

Hi guys! So i emailed the admissions office abt when the merit and aid come (i got in on the 1st of march) and they said that merit comes two weeks after admission and financial aid two weeks after merit. I’m confused since the first wave of applicants got their merit and aid 5 days after admission

@yoyo77777777, I think this is more of standard response. They start sending after 5-6 days after offer but can take upto 2 weeks as now number of applicants are many times earlier. Appreciate that they sent out 400-450 ED1. 300-350 ED2. 750 Feb Early admission. But now in March it could be literally as much as 1000-1500+. These are just estimates based on their blogs and news flow over last few years.

you’re right! tysm, I hope everyone gets their aid/merit soon!

My need-base amount is not pretty… hoping for some merit scholarships… can some one fill me some info about merit scholarships? I applied in January and I remember there was a 12/1 deadline for merit scholarships… Does that means there’s only a slim chance for me to get scholarships?

You still have a chance at getting a merit scholarship, especially if your an exceptional candidate. However, those that applied by December 1st had a better chance at getting merit aide.

Anyone know how much money U or R gives for National Merit finalist? Their website doesn’t say. Also, anyone know when the deadline is for listing U of R as first choice (which you have to do in order to get NM money). Some schools (such as BU) have a March 1st deadline but I can’t find anything about a deadline for Rochester. [wasn’t sure whether to post this here or in the National Merit forum, sorry if I put it in the wrong place].

@TheBigChef We were told via email that if URoc is named #1, then NMF scholarship will be awarded after May 1st once they look at list of all the scholars. It is not guaranteed, replaces any existing merit scholarship, and should be $20-25k.

When is the next wave expected?

Last year it was March 9th

@Zeylanite I wouldn’t expect a decision on the 9th since it is a Saturday. If anything we may hear on 8th or later in the month.

I got waitlisted and already sent a letter of continued interest a few days ago. Should I expect an email back saying they received it or nothing at all?? Just curious because I don’t know how this works hahahahaha

@Le1Harsh yeah, I’m looking for this Friday!

@TheBigChef & @DumDeeDummm we also emailed them asking about NMF. We received a letter just stating a minimum of $25,000 & yes it replaces whatever is given. Kind of want to know what the amount would really be…

Got in on March 1st! I really appreciated the personal note by the Rochester team in my acceptance letter.

Still waiting on Financial Aid.

My daughter applied late December (after Christmas) and got a merit-based scholarship!

did anyone who got in march 1st get their merit scholarship notification? i m still waiting:(
