I'm going to go premed. I'm not 100% sure of my major (if I go to SU it will be something in Human Ecology, if I go to UR maybe biochem not sure). any input of which college would best prep me for medical school/which one has a better name in this field? I plan on double majoring.

I admit that I don't know much about Syracuse so I can't compare the two schools.

But I can tell you that it is extremely easy to double major (or even triple major) at UR due to the flexibility of the Rochester curriculum. UR has a very good reputation for strong academics, especially in the natural sciences. It has a nice campus and the labs, libraries, and other facilities are in excellent condition. The smaller size of the school and the low student/teacher ratio give undergraduates a chance to really know their professors and even work on their research projects.

UR's med school is also top-notch and located right next door to campus, so there might be some extra opportunities from that connection too.

The atmosphere between Syracuse and Rochester is very different. Syracuse is a large, sports-oriented school. Rochester is small and, while not indifferent to sports, not as sports-oriented. (The BMOC are the members of the male a cappella group, not the football players.)

There are a lot of undergraduate research opportunities at Rochester. In fact, the president said last year that they have more research opportunities for undergraduates than they have undergraduates.

so is the answer to this question U of R? i feel like it is. i loved SU but i want to go where is best for my future.

Have you visited both campuses? Each one gives off a different vibe.

yeah. that is the thing. initially i loved u of r but then I went to SU today. I loved SU in a different way (and more). but i felt like there is more of a chance for me to "fall through the cracks" there. i felt like u of r's academic advisory and all that good stuff was paramount. yet i realize that SU is a strong school but when i asked my tour guide (who was premed himself) he told me they get the national average into med school aka 48%. i loved loved loved the SU campus and i meant four college kids on my tour and really got to drill them question wise and they loved it too. i would go there in a second if my major wasn't premed and it wasn't as important for me to have such a strong competitive background. i don't know i'm so torn. i think i may wind up going wherever gives me more aid/scholarships.
