Does U of Texas @ Austin use a rolling admission? Can someone thoroughly explain the concept of rolling admission please?

A rolling admission school generally sends out decisions of admission as applications are received. In other words, if you apply and submit all necessary documentation and test scores in October, you can get a decision usually within two to four weeks after doing so. The majority of colleges in the US have rolling admissions. You just tend to hear more on these boards about all the very high ranked schools which do not.

Texa has rolling admissions but has a tendency to sit on a lot of the decisions until after the application deadline. Part of the reason for that is the 10% rule. It has to admit students from Texas in the top 10% of their class. Though it admits some others early, it sits on a lot of those non ten percenters and non-Texas sudents until after the application deadline.
