After narrowing down his choices (he eliminated PSU main campus due to its size) to the above three schools he is looking for a tie breaker. He was accepted for industrial engineering at U Pitt, Engineering Management at Stevens, although after the accepted students’ day at Stevens, software engineering and quantitative finance (basically a financial engineering w/ programming degree) are also appealing, and Computer Engineering/Computer Science at U Del. He got a $10K renewable scholarship at U Del and a $19K renewable scholarship at Stevens. He needs to maintain a 3.0 gpa at U Del to keep his scholarship and stay in honors, and he needs to maintain a 3.25 gpa at Stevens to keep his scholarship. He went to the accepted engineering students’ day at Pitt, loved their campus and the extensive (relatively speaking) support they provide to students. he went to the accepted students’ day at U Del and Stevens and liked the smaller feel of the schools. Also, Stevens and U Pitt have full-fledged co-op while U Del has well established internships (non-paid and paid) but no co-ops.
Any help with the decision - based only on the info provided above - would be greatly appreciated.
Net price and debt at each?
U Pitt - approx. $33K incl. living, U Del - approx. $33K incl. living (after scholarship), Stevens - approx. $43K after scholarship. This is net price, there won’t be any debt.
Stevens is a smal, close knit community of students who all support each other. It is not a competitive place, where students complete against each other. They support each other, knowing that they are all in the same boat. Hoboken is an awesome place to live and you can’t beat NYC, which is literally a 15 minute train ride away. This is where the amazing co op program places students. Stevens reputation, its long history of placing well educated and competant students in NYC engineering placements, and the close proximity to NYC is why their ROI is #3 in the country. Graduates have jobs before they even graduate. Stevens grads are highly sought after. The facilities are very good, The campus is beautiful ( although small) and the NYC skyline view from the freshman dorms is a once in a lifetime residential experience. I am sure the other two options are excellent as well. I do not know anything about them, so I figured I’d fill you in on the positives for Stevens. Good luck!
