U. Rochester Class of 2027 Official Thread

They’re prompting my daughter to enter a temporary pin. Did anyone else have this issue or solve it? I’m not with her and she really wants to check!

So if merit not in the letter there is no merit, am I correct?

Did you scroll down
And I think there is a sep letter for merit

In another tab? We do not see anything about merit. We also discovered today that some school edited DD FAFSA and changed a number of students in the family… That will influence FA for sure…

Yes, they’ll say what scholarship it is and how much it’s worth in the decision letter, and there’s a section of the portal where it gives you more info on the scholarship as well. That’s what happened with me at least

Same here. Surely there is merit and/or FA or UR doesn’t work for most people.

Same question for us. Several posts here say they got merit notifications but we don’t know anybody admitted that was notified of merit yet. I’d like to know the names of these supposed merit scholarships to check it out.

If this helps, mine’s called the deans scholarship, in my decision letter it said it’s worth 9K. Here is a link to Rochester’s list of merit scholarships if you want to look further: Scholarships – Financial Aid & Scholarships

That’s great!

My daughter received no merit aid, but did get a Research and Innovation Grant; notification came separate from acceptance.

Yes, that is helpful and congratulations! 9K is not much though when sticker price is 85K and about the same merit some SUNY schools give that already have sticker price under 30K. We were expecting at least 40K in financial aid from UR and unless surprised in the formal financial aid notification upcoming not an option. Most of our other private choices got us to within 10K of SUNY Buff or Bing which in our opinion are not materially academically lower than UR and actually better in quite a few majors. Doesn’t sound like UR in our future. Too bad as a long family history there. Oh well. Hope it works for you.

Kid got admitted but no mention of merit aid. Based on the fact others here have heard, I’m guessing none’s coming.

This same thing happened a few years ago to another of mine (not UR) but my kid was excited about UR. Sorry if I sound frustrated but at $87K and limited merit aid, apparently, some of these well-endowed private schools seem to cater to the wealthy or to the not-well-off, but the middle is overlooked. What they feel is a reasonable EFC would put our retirement back a long time. I feel a little guilty about getting their hopes up.

My daughter was awarded the Baush & Lomb Honorary Science Award from her school in her Junior Year given out by UofR that allowed her to be considered for the possible merit scholarship upon admittance. Her merit amount received was given in her acceptance letter with a link to view more information regarding it. Hope that helps.

My son was admitted to U of R; and in his letter it said if you applied for FA you will receive a message soon. No mention of merit in acceptance letter; does this mean for sure none is coming or will it be included in info from FA. It seems from the various post; he likely will not get any merit as would have shared in acceptance letter. This is shocking to me and makes it clear that U of R will not be a realistic option for son as has received merit of 32K from most Universities has been admitted;

I wouldn’t give up the thought that merit may come in later. When we visited last Aug and spoke with an admissions counselor I was given the impression that merit is plentiful and the school really searches for the best possible scholarship money for admitted students in addition to the FA package. I don’t think it could hurt to follow up with the school to see if all merit given was already handed out in any case. Fingers crossed your son and everyone else receive something as well.

If there is plentiful scholarship money, it sure isn’t evident from this thread. A lot of disappointment at the lack of scholarship money seems to be the trend. I find it hard to believe that they would notify subsequently, especially since some have reported money offers in the admission letter. It think we’re SOL.

I am with you on this. As the saying goes: middle class need not apply to the so-called elites or do so at your own financial peril. I also regret getting my Ds hopes up for some including ivies when in the end they get in but the financial roadblock will likely be insurmountable. We are finding that even with 35K per year merit at many schools, they are not coming close to the FAFSA EFC which is already ridiculously high in our opinion. Learning curve for out next D I guess. Oh well. Good luck TB125
