Hi!
I've been reading through the immigration stuff for McGill and I'm a bit confused on what to do for the study permit for a U.S. student. It says that it is "strongly encouraged to obtain their Study Permit at the port of entry." Does this mean that I should wait until August 22nd when I drive up to McGill to apply for the study permit at the border? Or should I mail in the documents before that? Since McGill requires proof of a study permit and CAQ for picking up an ID, will I be able to get my study permit right away?
Thanks!

yes, my S did it at the border on the way to moving in. The study permits are issued right away and relatively quickly. Gotta have the CAQ first. That afternoon, he got his ID at school.

perfect! thank you! I was afraid of delays at the border but it sounds good :)

what is the difference between the CAQ and the study permit? can i get both at the border?

The CAQ is the "Application for a Quebec Acceptance Certificate for Studies," and you require it in order to get your study permit.
