I'm going to be starting my freshmen year this coming fall and I hope to eventually get a job in investment banking. I know how valuable summers are for bulking up resumes, so here is my dilemma. I've been offered an internship at the Treasury Department but I'm wondering how much clout that will hold on a resume. Would I be better off searching for a summer internship on Wall Street? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

That’s a pretty good internship considering you’re not even in college yet. Lots of people don’t even get a finance-related internship until after their sophomore year

You will not get an internship on Wall Street. Take the treasury internship, learn as much about it as you can, and make some contacts in the process. Good that you’re starting young.

I would like to echo the fact that you will not get a job on Wall Street this summer unless your Dad is CEO or something. You just graduated high school and most programs started 2-3 weeks ago. The Treasury Department will be a nice intro, which sub-group is it in?

I thought treasury was only looking for people after freshman year…

def take the job. it’s a good experience

I’m sorry, that was very unclear. The internship is for the summer after freshmen year. Thanks everybody!

Take it!

IMO an internship at the Treasury would be more impressive applying for IBD than most finance internships you could get as a freshman (wealth management/etc).
