Hey I am currently a grade 12 student from Canada writing SAT's and about to start applications to both U.S. and Canadian business schools. I plan on majoring in either finance or accounting before going on to get my MBA. My final goal is to get into a major U.S. MBA program (Ivy's, UChic, Stanford, etc.) but am unsure where to go for my undergraduate.

Supposing that I even get in to a prestigious business school for my undergraduate degree, is it even worth it to go considering the hefty price tag that is attached or am I just wasting my time with these SAT's? Will going to a good Canadian school (UofT, McGill, UBC, etc.) rather than a good U.S. business school for my undergraduate effect my chances of getting into these highly ranked MBA programs?

Maybe. Top programs tend to feed other top program, all things being equal. Harvard grads undoubtedly have an easier time than U. of Vermont grads in getting into top MBA programs, but that doesn’t mean Harvard guarantees you a spot or Vermont is automatically excluded.

The Canadian schools you are talking about are not shabby. Short of getting into the tippy-top US undergrad programs, going Canadian may be your best value.

I don’t think a top US school is worth 30k+ more than McGill or UToronto. Anyways, top MBA programs care more about work experience than UG degree.

A good Canadian degree, followed by three or more years of increasingly responsible work experience will make you a viable candidate at the top MBA programs in the US - and in the rest of the world.
