Hey, so I have 21 advanced standing credits from AP exams and whatnot. I would REALLY like to be able to skip the freshman program and work directly towards my chosen major. People say that you must have 30 credits to be considered U1, but the AP classes I have taken satisfy all prerequisites for Mcgill's freshman program. I would effectively be taking electives the whole year - something I am not keen of doing.

Has anyone been in this situation? Any help?

I say do U0. college is supposed to be the best time of our lives so why not make it last?

If you report your scores, McGill will automatically exempt you from the equivalent classes.

You don’t need to be U1 in standing to take courses in your program, you just need the pre-reqs. So conceivably, if you get credit for, CHEM 110/120, PHYS 131/142, MATH 140/141 (say), then I don’t see why you can’t just immediately begin your program (you’ve satisfied the pre-reqs).

That being said, I would take the year to learn some other stuff. Come U2 or U3, you’ll find yourself totally embroiled in your program courses, and you might find yourself regretting not exploring an elective subject, or two.
