Sad situation for all parties involved and I am waiting for the official outcome on this. Looks to me, the video does not support the original claim by the victims that more than a few white people were beating on three black girls. I am following this story closely, since my son was accepted to UAlbany as well as other schools. UAlbany was in our top three just as this story broke. I am anxious to see what the ramifications will be for those who would make these false allegations. Certainly, they should be expelled from the school. If they are not, sadly, we will be crossing this school off of our list.
I think that University at Albany officials will certainly make the correct decision with this case. Maybe to outsiders, it seems that the University is trying to sweep things under the rug. Personally, I think they are trying to be as thorough as possible. The decision needs to be PERFECT as to not cause an outrage which, yes, could possibly happen if these 3 women who most likely lied were to just be thrown out all willy-nilly. Give them time.
Anyways, UAlbany should still be a consideration for you child. There is absolutely no animosity on campus as of right now nor was there after this situation. People are not fighting each other, or segregating themselves by race, or anything like that. I LOVE UAlbany! Please keep it as an option. The bus incident was tragic, but it will soon be completely resolved and over with.
Sad story but I am glad to see that it was taken care of.

I am sure that Hillary Clinton will retract and correct her tweet and change the photo on that tweet too.

I am so glad this thread was started because I didn’t want to post it on the other ualbany threads and get people riled up who may not have any concerns in the first place. UAlbany is also on top of my sons list. They gave him $ for merit scholarship and accpeted into honors college and it is fantastic for his major business/accounting. We too have been very concerned due to this whole situation. Even though the results of the investigation were revealed this weekend it is still bothersome to hear this all over the news. Now people are critizing the University President for how he initially reacted when the story first broke. Just very discouraging all around.
Luckily this weekend we were able to reach out to friends and friends of friends who are either a student or parent of a student of UALBANY and we were assured by all of them that there is no protesting or tensions going on and that they are all very happy with the school. We are scheduled to attend scholar day next week and still plan on attending. Time will tell what my sons desicion will be.
You make a great point, dim9798. There seemed to be no further uproar on campus or rioting in the streets. We are attending scholar day, as well. See you there! LOL UAlbany gave my son a great package and the direct admittance into the business school is a major perk for us. Basically, we are deciding between UAlbany, Bing, UDel, UConn & FDU. I know your one son is attending Bing. We are going to check out the local area while we are at scholar day tomorrow. We are from NJ and have never been to the city of Albany. Again, good luck with your decision!
BTW, Dim9798, my son’s major is also accounting
Did we actually meet at Scholar’s Day, Dim? If so, wow, what were the chances of THAT? Weird.
@Hellothereyou Yes it looks like we had lunch together! I can’t believe it! I sent you a private message
As much as I love UAlbany, if your son got into Binghamton, I would definitely choose that university. Unless, of course, UAlbany is offering more money to your son.
But yes, there is no tension on campus at all.
Oh by the way, I am an accounting major! So feel free to ask me any questions
