UArts MT class of '08

The UArts class of 2008 has officially graduated, and I am on my way to start my life and career in New York City with another classmate! We’re still unsure of where we’re going to live permanently, but we’ll be crashing at a friend of the family’s in Flushing until we find a place.

I hope that for those of you I’ve corresponded with that I’ve been of help. To those of you who sent me e-mails that I haven’t returned, I am very sorry. As I’m sure you know, it is a major that requires a lot of time and energy, and some days are more stressful than others and e-mails get put on the backburner. Again, I’m very sorry.

I just wanted to say thank you for the past few years and give you a short update as to what some of the recent alums are up to.

All in all, I am very proud of our entire class, and I hope that all of you who are currently at UArts, are matriculating this fall, or are considering applying look to our class and the classes before and after us for guidance and help.

Thanks to all of you who’ve made me feel like I know something about something! :)

Congratulations and best wishes as you head to NYC!! Thank you again for the time you gave my son and me when we were in Philly. He ended up coming off the wait list at Roosevelt for MT but after comparing pros and cons (and scholarship money, fin aid, etc) he chose UArts, in part due to our visit. His last day of school is Friday, open house on Sunday and graduation the following Thursday. When talking last night, I was talking about how exciting the next week or so is going to be. He responded, "I am just excited for August to get here."

Will you be in Milwaukee before heading to New York? Or is it straight to the city? Again, best wishes and have fun!!! What an adventure!!

some of them are going to stunt school in Seattle? That's awesome!
I know what I'M doing after UArts.

yup! one of our alumni has been really into stunts since before she got to UArts and made a point not only to take the combat classes that MTs don't get, but also to tutor it. She's certified in lots of weapons, but going to stunt school (which is only about a month long) will get her certified in other things. I know she'll at least get certified in driving and maybe more hand-to-hand combat. :)

sheerviolette, congratulations and best wishes as you move on to new adventures in your life. I wish you the best of success and gratification in your future endeavors. The generosity of your sharing of your time and knowledge both on this Board and with other students at UArts has been appreciated by so many. To the extent that your time permits, please stick around on this Board and keep us posted on what you are up to!

are there any other stunt opportunities in Philly other than UArts stage combat program and the connection to the Philadelphia Fight Ensemble?

AZKMom - I'm so glad your son is choosing UArts! I'm sure I'll be back around next year sometime and we'll get the chance to catch up. I will not be going back to Milwaukee until August. It's a lot easier to make the move right from Philly. Thank you very much for the good thoughts!

MichaelNKat - Thank you for your well wishes! Charlie Gilbert joked with me last week about keeping me on payroll for my correspondence on CC, but if I deserve pay, you should be the president of the company. Thank you for sharing your experiences and helping get information out there. Your diligence makes a huge difference in spreading the word about the school.

JeffB - I'm not really sure about other opportunities for Combat in Philly. There are many different levels of combat at UArts, which I'm sure you already know. The only other thing that I can think of is that there's a Combat Workshop every year, which may be what you're talking about with the Philadelphia Fight Ensemble. I know Chuck Conwell would have a lot more answers for you, though. As I'm sure you also know.

but does anyone know if there are any other stunt opportunities, not just combat. Horseback riding, free falling, wire fighting, etc. The stuff that you would study at the Seattle school. Anyone know anything like that in Philly?

Sheerviolette,
I want to echo MichaelNKat's comments and wish to add my own wishes for your success in NYC and may you have a long and enriched career there.
My D and I will always appreciate your visit with us and as she starts her Uarts journey, I know your advice and thoughts will remain with her (and me). Thanks again, B
