Nice I can’t wait to go.it’s gonna be awesome! Do you plan on the Auditioning for the MT minor? Do you plan on going to see broadway shows?

I saw Wicked yesterday and there was a graduate from Uarts '09 which was pretty kool :)

Actually yea, I do plan on auditioning for the MT minor! I’m not sure though if I’ll get in it, it’s kinda selective (for next year they took a “large” group of 12, and when I called the school they said it was normally 5-8). And I LOVE seeing Broadway shows! Whenever I get the time, and money, I’d definitely be up for seeing anything.

If you haven’t already, join the “University of the Arts (Accepted Students for Class of 2015)” page on Facebook, and friend me. I’m the admin. When you do, let me know you’re who I was talking to on here =)

Earlier this week, our D completed her trips to Hartt and UArts, and after sitting in on classes, talking with professors and students, and getting a flavor for the two very different campuses, she is making her list of pros, cons, likes and dislikes.

At this point, these are her “finalists.” All other offers/options have been eliminated.

UArts is doing about $10K per year better when it comes to scholarship and aid, but we definitely don’t want cost to be a major factor, since at this stage what’s the difference between $20K a year out of our pockets as opposed to $30K? It’s all “Monopoly” money at this point when you cosider we’re still going to have to get one of those lovely Parent-Plus loans.

It’s going to be a VERY close decision.

So, as one additional thing to throw into the mix when it comes to making her decision, we’d like to ask our College Confidential friends their opionions. I know we’ve batted this around here a little bit already.

But what would you do … and why? Is it UArts or Hartt? We’re extremely thrilled that our D has two such wonderful BFA programs from which to choose. But this is really hard right now!

Please let us know what you think.

Since we only know about UArts I can’t help with comparisons. But we can tell you that as much as we liked UArts when D made her choice we only like it all the more now. After two years D has had top notch professors and, as and MT, has been in several productions including a mainstage musical (“Nine”) and a serious drama (The Crucible). The growth we have seen and the shivers I get listening to her voice - well - just amazing. And she is as happy as can be at UArts and in Philly. She shares an apartment - a pretty cool one too- with 2 super girls about 5 minutes from Terra that is very reasonably priced. One more thing has also stood out. And this is a very individual situation which I hope no other parent ever has to go through. This spring my D was unfortunately in a serious accident (hit by a a car) and I cannot tell you how much it meant to us to have the love and support of her director, professors, administration - and of course the great kids she has met at UArts. This type of accident can happen in any town or city (the 79 year old driver was not paying attention) but UArts did everything they could to help her keep up her classes and open in a show (which also says a lot about her grit!). Another $40 K would matter to us and as junior year approaches loans do take on a more prominent role in planning - but it sounds like that is not an issue at all for you. She has had so many opportunities and has also enjoyed the one hour ride on the Bolt bus for $12.50 to visit her Tisch friends and see NYC. UArts theater (the Merriam) was a thrill to perform in. Dorms are actually pretty nice. Tho ask her and she would say having an apartment in Center City Philly is the best thing of all for housing. We had been concerned that her dance level would not be met (she’s danced for 16 years) but it has and she will be able to dance in the Dance Department with permission so the level will remain high. OK - so I am a big fan of UArts - but with many more reasons than I can name in the thread. Best of luck with your decision - both are great choices so congratulations. The coming years will be so wonderful for you!

Thanks for your wonderful reply, Oregontheatermom! The postiive comments about UArts from parents and students have been pretty consistent. We were also blown away by how nice people were to us when we toured this past Monday. We were treated very well at Hartt too, but Hartt can’t really match that Phily “Center City vibe.”

Because it’s the University of Hartford, Hartt does beat UArts easily when it comes to a “traditional” college campus vibe, though. Our D likes the idea of both, so it’s just another thing that makes our decision difficult.

I’d be interested to hear too from others who might weigh in on the merits of each school’s acting programs.
