UBC B.A. or B.S?

Hello,
What is the easier undergraduate degree to be admitted to at UBC. Either or doesn't matter to me as I will be transferring the a B.ED for my third year. What degree has the lowest percentage/GPA needed.

Also if possible, what is the percentage needed to get into a BA or BS at UBC?

Thanks guys,
John

hey john,
ubc b.a. is for sure easier to get accepted into. students that eventually want to go into science but just can’t b.c of their grade 12 GPA start off by going into ubc b.a. and then transfering later into science.
the percentage needed changes every year, but from what i know, this year the percentage for ubc b.s. is 90.5% and b.a. is something around 83%-86%. however, these are only the averages needed to be automatically admitted into the faculty. if you’re worried that you might not get accepted b.c of your marks, you have the option of filling out the supplementary application (which is made of a couple short essays) that the admissions committee will then look at.

Hey Yowza,
Thank you for your response. I will probably apply for the BA as that way I will have an almost guaranteed admission. In Grade 11 I have a 86 average, however that includes classes that I do not do as well in such as Social Studies (History). I imagine in Gr 12 I will be able to bring it up to a 90 or so. Also just for future reference, I mean I plan to switch into B.E.D.S (Bachelor of Enviromental Design).

Thank you for all your help!!

If anyone else has any input that would be great too!!
Thanks,
John

no problem
if you’d rather start in BS rather than BA before switching into BEDS, you could list BS as your first choice and BA as your second. that way, they’d consider you for BS first, and if they decide to not accept you into that, they’d accept you into your second choice. by doing that you’ll at least be giving yourself a shot at getting into BS!
and by the way, you probably know this already but ubc is just going to look at your four top marks from grade 12 (english and three more).

good luck!

Hey Yowza,
On that note, I was thinking of using BS as first choice and BA as second choice. However is there any less of a chance that if I were to not get into BS, get into BA, opposed to directly applying into BA?
Thanks,
John

as far as i know, not at all! the admission committee will assess your application for your first-choice program, and if they don’t accept you to it, they’ll take a look at your second choice and consider it independently of any other factors (eg. it being your second choice, you not being accepted into your first choice). i might be wrong, but from what i understand you shouldn’t be worried about putting BS as your first pick and BA as your second! lots of people do it :)
