@Anushkan UBC Is not as competitive as UCLA or USC. Those acceptance rates range from 10%-20% while UBC is 50%. I think your daughter has a great chance of getting in! And I do believe the international connection at UBC is strong as more than 20% of their student body is international which is a huge percentage.
I applied to UBC as an international transfer student from California before the due date.
When do they usually send out decisions for international students?
Applied for Fall 2018
I got my decision in mid-March as an international
hey, has anyone applied for ILOT at UBC? If yes, have you received your decision?
I didn’t get into my first choice faculty so I think I’ll be attending uvic. Good luck with all your future endeavours everyone!
@StressssedOut UVic is a great school and you could always transfer after first year. Did you get rejected for Science or waitlisted? If so, what does your status message say? I got waitlisted for science for May 15 but could be sooner. What is your second choice and did you get a decision for it yet? Thanks.
I got accepted to UBC, Faculty of Science (CS) from India. Any Indians?
When am I supposed to receive my scholarship notification??
did you apply for ilot?
can you get ilot if you get imes?? if not, then do they reserve better candidates for ilot?
My D was waitlisted as international aplicant for commerce on 26-th of March and on 1-st of April she was accepted
@Father2001 Thank you! I got waitlisted so hopefully, I can get off the waitlist before May
I have a question.
My admission status hasn’t updated since applying, although I just received an email saying “Register for Jump Start, your official UBC welcome. We’re so excited to welcome you to UBC this fall!”
Does anyone know what this means?
Yes - my D also received that email early this morning. She has been offered admission, but has not yet accepted. I believe that email went out by mistake as she confirmed to me she didn’t click that “Accept” button yet…
@aweinst: You cannot compare acceptance rates across the border because Canadian students only apply to a few schools but US regime is vastly different with students applying for 10 or more. Furthermore, acceptances at UBC and other schools vary by faculty so getting into Engineering is tougher than Arts; In the US the differences within each University are much less pronounced.
Looking at the acceptance criteria or international school rankings is probably a better way…
Any international transfer students still waiting for a reply? Do you know when they are typically released?
I got accepted today on May 18, 2018!
Decision: Accepted!!
Applied: January 8th 2018
From: Nevada, USA (with Canadian citizenship) I come from the worst school district in the country lol.
Program: UBC Vancouver Faculty of Arts (second choice, rejected to first choice science on May 16).
GPA: Transcript shows combined GPA from grades 9-12; 3.93 unweighted/4.3 weighted. I did not take any AP classes, took some honors classes instead.
SAT: 1300 (670 Math, 630 Reading and Writing.
ECs: My personal profile was pretty good in my opinion. I talked about how I became better at playing piano and how I started giving piano lessons to kids, and I talked about how I improved my potential by retaking the SAT, and I talked about how I was involved in the culinary arts program and that we started a school restaurant that donated proceeds to homeless youth.
Thank you to everyone on College Confidential for guiding me and giving me advice to get me into my dream school!!
Hi! I’m currently a junior in high school and ubc is my top choice. I’ll be applying to the faculty of arts (probably to study psychology and or film studies) I was wondering if anybody could give me an idea about my chances of getting in?
Junior year GPA: 3.57 uw (3 AP’s, all honors), around 4.3 weighted
Sophmore year GPA: 3.3 uw (1 AP, all honors)
Freshmen year: 3.3 uw (all honors)
Cumulative: 3.4 uw, 4.1w
Senior year: will be taking 3 APs and all honors classes.
Have been on varsity softball since freshmen year and volunteered at softball camps for little kids, worked at some soup kitchens, part of student council, am asain american and jewish, and work at a summer camp for GT students at uo. Live in the Washington D.C. area
SAT: around high 1200’s/ 1300
ACT: 27 ( will be retaking)
I also have visited UBC (although idt that makes much of a difference)
@rsamr2: Congratulations!
@malagc: Try to pull up your GPA and SAT. I think that UBC is probably a reach for you. It might be worth applying, but your chances would be better at U.Victoria and Simon Fraser, which are also very good universities in southern British Columbia. If you are not a Canadian citizen or PR then they would also be more affordable.
