UBC/NYU/UCI for business undergrad

So, it all comes down to this seems like. Having a difficult time deciding. Seeking major in administration, focus in accounting or management.

Irvine has the perks of actually being in California, so I presume it will help out in terms of getting jobs or whatnot closer to home. Tuition is on the lower side (due to in-state), although I don’t qualify for aid nor did I receive any merit based aid. Got accepted into their business school for administration, and I’ve heard it’s getting there in terms of prestige and rankings. Also helps that I know some people there right now, and the academics are (probably) built off of American curriculum.

NYU is pretty good, although the tuition is crazy, and the aid I got doesn’t quite justify it atm (Still looking at around 50k a year with room and board included). Although it is a good school, it’s pretty far away, and the weather seems rather unwelcoming.

British Columbia is my other choice. I’m a citizen, so tuition is actually lower than Irvine, not even factoring exchange rate. Vancouver is kind enough to be on the West coast and not that far away, and the campus is pretty sweet. Got accepted into Sauder for commerce, which is also nice. It’s one of the top schools in Canada. I’m just a little worried about prospects of coming back down to California or the USA in general after I’m through there. Also, I’m not entirely sure how I’ll fare coming from a US high school to Canadian university, in terms of academics. I live near the bay, so the academic rigor of my high school is fairly intense if that means anything.

I haven’t decided whether to pursue a graduate degree afterwards.

I visited Irvine a long while back, and the campus seems not very interesting, but fairly quaint if that’s the right word for it. I’m not really a party guy or anything, and not really familiar with greek life or anything. UBC campus is pretty nice, but I’m not really going to prioritize by campus feel right now.

Sorry for the long spiel, thanks to all in advance for taking time to read this

Drop NYU unless the cost difference is pocket change.

That leaves UBC and UCI. Both can get you where you want to go in life. UBC has reasonable name recognition in the US so there is no reason to worry about that.

Are you dual-national or Canadian in the US as a legal oermanent resident or other immigration status? If you aren’t dual national, find out whether or not spending extended time in Canada could adversely affect your status (and possible future employment) here.

Which school at NYU?

@happymomof1

I’m a dual citizen, so I don’t think immigration status will be an issue.

@PurpleTitan

Got into Stern, which is really good, but it’s almost entirely out of price range, so I don’t think NYU is a factor at this point anymore

Sauder, especially if you get in to this program or the other one like that: http://www.sauder.ubc.ca/News/2017/New_partnership_offers_UBC_Sauder_students_gateway_to_Yale

@PurpleTitan That sounds like a great program, but it’s not open to students with an undergraduate business degree.

OK, fair point, @bouders. Sauder is still pretty well-known.
