USD ranked in Top 50 of BusinessWeek's rankings....

For Undergrad Business schools. USD is #46 to be exact!

Interesting. I'm seriously considering USD for business, but I need to see the other places I get into and then go check out the USD campus. Only problem is the cost. My dad said he could swing it if I really wanted to go there; but like he said when you compare what you're getting from CPSLO and UCI to USD it's pretty much the same (except for the fact that USD is double the price).

Well if you want to go into business, then USD would definitely be a better school to go to than Cal Poly or UCI. USD's business school is the 4th ranked in California. And I think that with the great professor interaction you get at USD, you get more out of it than at most public schools. (With the exception of those like Berkeley or UCLA)

I'm into CPSLO and UCI as well. I've kind of scratched USD from the list though. USD is a little small for my liking and it's double the cost of a UC. It's down to CPSLO and UCI. I know CPSLO has a true undergrad business school and UCI doesn't. However, I would think it would be much easier to get a job out of UCI just because of it's location. At UCI I'd be majoring in Business Economics and CPSLO would be economics.

Any input on the pros and cons of going to either school for business?

I have no idea about either business school- off all the people I know that go to Cal Poly or UCI, I can't think of one that's a business major. Maybe you should try posting on one of their boards though.....

I am a biochem major and can't decide where I should go for my undergraduate education. I plan to go on to med school afterward. I spent a couple of days at USD and really liked the small size and new science facilities. Also, the classes and labs are taught by the professors and it felt as though you would truly have a better hands on experience there. However, UCI is definitely a science school and there is no question that the research possibilities and quality of classes are there. Does anyone have knowledge about the science programs at USD since they are so new. Any opinions would be appreciated.

i am a science major, and one of the main advantages of going here is that you get hands on experience right away in the labs. i have friends who go to uci and ucsd and they don't start chem lab until after 1st or 2nd quarter and they don't start bio lab until their 2nd year. also, in my opinion, it would be harder to do research at the UC's since a majority of the students are science majors and would compete for that research position.
also, if you are planning on doing premed, the undergrad school does not matter that much, because if you go to a great science school like uci but don't take advantage of its facilities, you wouldn't be better off. even though usd has a fairly new science program, i don't think it hinders anything.
so i really think that choosing the school really boils down to what kind of school you want. if you like the small class size and close relationships with your professors, then usd would be a great choice. good luck!
