UC admissions: early vs. late

This info came from my friend. I really can't verify this.

Basically, she told me that for those who got notice earlier (I am still pending), some of them got in and some of them did get rejected.

So, it's not a "we take the good one first then reject all that's left" deal. This eased my worry considerablly.

Do you guys have any idea about the ORDER of admission? Why are some people got notice first. Is it because of their name, major, etc?

Inputs would be helpful.

i think by majors

It's generally by major. Definitely at UCLA, not sure about other schools.

San Diego has me thoroughly confused right now.

Seems it was by major at SB, but not entirely as UCLA. LA sends out rolling admissions with everyone in a certain major being told at the same time, while santa barbara took over a week for people in the same major.

It definitely varies by the school.

i'm a history major and i havent heard from sb yet... while other people on this board have yet already ben accepted. the simple fact is this; some applications stand out-- accpetance easy and some are not even qualified to transfer-- easy decisions, but there are a large bulk that can go either way. i'm sure the schools take time and consider everything..it's not some magical process, i even doubt it if it's ordered by major and such. those of us in the big maybe pile.. it's ok... atleast we havent been thrown into the trashcan---we're just as much alive as anyone else!

there are a number of VERY qualified students who had not heard from UC yet.
