I have a question regarding having to state your intended major and college your applying to within the university. Say in the UC system someone told me that you have two choices first preference and second but for berkeley you only have one preference. If i am just trying to get admissions into the school (say ucla) will putting my major down as engineering as first preference and my second choice is undeclared letters and science be tougher time getting into ucla overall. I am a senior and have no clue what i want to major in yet. Also a rep told me transferring into or out of colleges is near impossible. Is this true?

It is very hard to get into most engineering majors at UCs if you don't get accepted as a freshman. It is also considerably harder to get into UCs as an engineering major than as most other majors. It's one on the unfortunate things about UCs, if you want a competitive major you must often choose it when applying.

at UC schools transferring into specialty colleges like Fine Arts or Engineering is very difficult. Going the other way, into Letters and Science (the college housing most of the majors on campus) is easy.

like will putting my first choice as engineering and my second as undeclared letters and science make it harder to get into the university as opposed to letters and science first
