Generally, which is more important in terms of college admissions: completing the IGETC or working towards (and possibly completing) the University's breadth requirements? I have been receiving many mixed answers regarding this, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

It depends entirely on your major. For most majors, IGETC is definitely the best (and most straightforward) route. However, if you're applying for majors with high unit requirements, such as engineering, bio, etc., you unequivically should not follow IGETC as you'll never get anything done. I don't know which exact majors look down on IGETC (other than engineering, thats a definite), but I know that it'll tell you on UC Pathways. If you're applying into Letters and Science, Igetc is your best bet.

allie is right. for most of the social science majors though IGETC is prob. more important. UCLA recommends on their admissions web site that you have all of IGETC completed and "all or most of your major requirements" the "all or most" is definately said about IGETC they clearly state "IGETC completed" this is also on their orange publication located on most transfers centers titled "Answers for Transfers"
