IGETC -importance??

my schedules are kinda packed because i am trying to transfer in one year . one of the problem is the GE requirement .
i can go for IGETC + math/econ major prepartions .

bt I wanna know if IGETC is better than just fulfilling GE requirement by taking right number of classes in each section .

If i can just do GE + major preparation , i can take classes i really want to take such as physics and chem instead of philosophy or history . would certificiaton(IGETC) really worth it?

if i was in your situation, i would take your major preparations first and get those out of the way over igetc. you're lucky your major prereqs are offered in the fall before you transfer, lol. all of mine are in spring.

IGETC fulfills your GE requirements so you don't need to take any more GE classes when you transfer. Focus on your major classes because those will be the determining or major factors in your application

i guess i wasnt really clear about the question .
finishiing major classes isnt the problem that i am having . just i do not like GE classes that i have to take to get IGETC done .
Two transferable college courses (3 semester or 4–5 quarter units each) in English composition;one transferable college course (3 semester or 4–5 quarter units) in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning;four transferable college courses (3 semester or 4–5 quarter units each) chosen from at least two of the following subject areas
is what they have as GE requirement . this is much less class than IGETC . so does IGETC guarantee more of acceptance than simply finishign these requriements???

i have the same question! does anyone know?

I would say the IGETC is important because it is listed under "eligibility" correct?

If your major recommends it according to ASSIST.ORG, then I suggest you complete this rather than other GE.. articulation can get tricky when trying to complete UC GE at a diff cc school.. right??

HOWEVER i read at multiple UC SITES that you not complete IGETC at the expense of you major prereqs...

hope i helped..I am going to complete igetc thing after two more classes and some of my prereqs were on it (two birds one stone...)

but that was to the Original question--
idk if it gives you an advantage over reg ge for one UC

i think theres more just so that the igetc can be universal...

ALSO**its mosty important if you are doing a TAG (its required)

dude just finish IGETC, the UCs strongly recommend it unless ur an engineer............ its highly unlikely schools would like their applicants to apply without doing it. only other way to get around would be using AP scores, which im not even sure you're doing...

You will need to have 60 units before your can transfer you can't have that just from pre-req. I don't think you can transfer without taking a english or math class since those commonly are hardest classes for student will hard to judge student without those.

thx for the replies , but it is kinda getting off topic . but it was really helpful thx all .
in conclusion i guess IGETC is universal and is safe that covers all GE requriement after the transfer . And any disadvantage or advange from completing either IGECT or GE is.. up to decision makers.

it is getting off the topic. how do you find out the ge requirement for each college if you're not following the IGETC? I went to assist to look for ucla and berkeley's....but its really confusing....can somebody copy and paste it to me? i'm majoring in business econ ( ucla) /econ ( berkeley) which is in the college of letters and science
