I was ready to submit my UC application until I got confused about this question after reviewing it.
Does this question mean --How many months/years have you been involved in the job-- OR --How many months/years after 12th grade did you START working at the job–
For example, if i graduated high school in 2017 and then worked on a job Jan-Nov 2019.
Should the answer to the question be 11 months (time spent on the job) or 2 years (how much time after high school did you start working)
Seems to me “how many months…did you work at this job” refers to the duration of your employment, qualified by only including the time after graduation. So 11 months.
I think the other interpretation would need to include the word “start”. Without it, the time from graduation to working would be anywhere from approx. 19 to 30 months (from June 17 to Jan 19 up to June 17 to Nov 19)
Is this the exact wording? Do you have a link to the application?
@RichInPitt Yes, that was actually the exact wording that can be found in the UC application, which I honestly think could be misunderstood by many including me. However, It does seem to me as well that it refers to the duration of employment (I originally interpreted it the other way around).
Im not entirely sure how to link the application since one has to be an applicant to see the exact questions, but this is how the page questions looked like:
Where did you work: ------
Please briefly describe the company or organization where you worked: ------
What was your job title?: ------
What were your job responsibilities?: ------
When did you work at this job?: - This is where i checked the option “After 12th grade” -----
How many months/years after 12th grade did you work at this job?: The number of years and months can be chosen from a drop-down list. -----
Hours per week: -----
Do you still work at this job? -----
Start Date: -----
^^^ Since there’s a separate question on “Start Date,” I think that would be an indicator that the “How many months/years after 12th grade…” question does indeed refer to employment duration. Why would they need to know that time gap between 12th grade and the start date of your job? … but idk.
It’s always been confusing. Does it mean how many years after high school were you in the job - or does it means how long after high school did you start? I believe I read somewhere it wants to
know when you started so it aligns with earlier layout from high school. So you did X in 11th grade (and list weeks and hours), and then in sophomore college year you did Y, which would mean 2 years after 12th (and then list weeks and hours).
