<li>UC San Diego, UC Riverside, and UC Merced applicants increased significantly.</li>
<li>The most popular UC campus remained UCLA, which received 81,235 applications. </li>
<li>UC San Diego passed UC Berkeley as the second most popular campus with 70,474 applications.</li>
<li>Because of the large number of applicants, UCR was taken out of the UC system’s “referral pool".</li>
<li>UC Merced will be offering a place for eligible students.</li>

<p>what is a referral pool?</p>

<p>If you applied to schools in the UC system, and did not get in, your applications would get sent over to Riverside and Merced. So, you could conceivable be accepted at them, without actually applying.</p>

<p>But, this year, it will just be Merced.</p>

<p>So, is UCSD going to be much harder this year? :(</p>
