UC Application 2012 Thread

yeah so after reading wei li sun’s latest update, i am going to stop visiting that site just as i was suggested to do by a member a while back.

making indirect posts in response to things i do on a forum that benefits the overall people who are seeking enlightenment is ■■■■■■■■.

as well as using terms in the post such as legal and own is quite saddening to me as i religiously visit and praise the site, as if summoning me to court because i copied and pasted internet information onto another would really hold water in a court of law.

If Wei Li Sun has created a website, obtained copyright protection for its contents, does research on a topic and then publishes it on her website she is the legal owner of that material and does have the right to determine how it can be used.

In addition, although you did not claim to have written the material yourself a one line “via Ms Sun” is not a proper citation and a reader could have easily conclded that you wrote all or part of that prose in your post. You need to be careful about that when you transfer to a UC. Failure to properly cite material that you are not the original author of that you include in papers you you write can be considered plagerism and get you into serious trouble.

Ms. Sun has every right to make her wishes be known in regards to the content on her website which she so kindly compiled for us during her time. If you feel that it was a personal attack on you, that’s really your problem and if you are going to hold a petty grudge against her for that, then that’s your loss. I’m sorry but your childish behavior is really saying a lot about your personality.

Secondly, by copying a giant block of text off Ms. Sun’s website and reposting it here, you have actually accomplished nothing; you have not helped anyone and you most certainly have not “[benefited] the overall people who are seeking enlightenment,” whatever that may mean (UCkittychen). The information has nothing at all to do with the UC application. It was good information about the financial issues facing the UC’s, but it belongs elsewhere–no, it belongs on Ms. Sun’s website, where people can already easily find it.

Your lack of common sense and common courtesy makes me doubt you have the ability to survive a term at any UC, assuming you treat your peers/instructors with the same disrespect. I am glad I do not go to school with anyone like you. Now if you feel the need to post some vicious rant against me, feel free to do so. It is your own, and very legal right. I have certainly deserved it (I admit). Note that this is a very direct reference to your post (so there should be no problems in that area).

You have my full permission to reproduce this wherever the heck you want. Good day.

^ wei li sun must have been your mom, aunt, sister, or something. fly in and save her, dedicated your time to me, bolding and italicizing and everything just for me, aww how cute :)

Jesus… you people would throw a fit over the wind shifting.

Don’t see why anyone should get upset over someone asking them (very nicely) to just cite the work. But come on, comparing that to plagiarism in universities doesn’t fare any better.

I would like to address UCkittychen’s comment:

I do not take the claim that I own my content very lightly. I’m married to an attorney who practiced intellectual property law for 1.5 years for one of the top IP law firms in LA before going into public service. I have also spent a good deal of time researching intellectual property and copyright laws when I first set up my business in 2009. Just because I make my content available to the public does not mean I relinquish my ownership. Copyright protection is enforceable at the federal level and businesses large and small sue for monetary damages over copyright all the time. I am asking nicely that I’d be credited when my work is cited because I think it’s better than sending a cease and desist letter. I would appreciate you respecting my rights instead of acting cavalier about breaking the law.

To everyone else, I apologize if I seem really aggressive in defending my rights. Since my website started, there has been continuous unauthorized use of my content. As an online business entrepreneur, my content is all I have and I must defend it against theft. Maybe this will make me unpopular and that is unfortunate, but I hope I have conveyed why this is necessary.

TL;DR version: Provide links to websites that you take information from. Add quotes around quoted information.

It’s really not that hard. It’s kinda just common courtesy. Stop making a huge deal about having to click ctrl-c and ctrl-v from your URL bar.

…as you say wei li. as you say.

Uc app open :D

After reading ^^^ I tried to start it, but the site only gives options for fall 2011 and winter/spring 2012. I exited out before selecting either. Hopefully tomorrow I can log back in with the same email and select fall 2012…

^ Yeah, I’d probably stay up till midnite and see if I’m the first one to access the application lol

Calm down kitty, calm down. It’s no big deal at all, you just make it worse

hi everyone
going back to the original topic for this thread… im currently filling out the “academic history” section of the uc application thread and i’m not sure what to put for the “end date” of the college i am currently attending. do they want june 2012 (assuming i am accepted) or june 2014 (if i am not accepted and end up staying at my current college)?
i’d like to find out which one is correct since there is a warning that states “Providing incomplete or incorrect information may jeopardize your UC admission or enrollment.”
thanks in advance!

im so happy its open finally. i was going to try to stay up till 12 too sparky.

I have so much trouble filling out this application…

Hi All,

For the Parent Information section, do I have to fill this info out? I am not speaking to my father and don’t know how long he has worked at his job, and both of my parents are college grads. So I don’t see any benefit in listing my parent’s info. Can I got without it?

Thanks.

this app is confusing. csu was easy as 123

Do I need to report an AP score if the score is under 3?

@drop44: just ask someone close to him if you are reluctant to ask him… they don’t really check who your father is, but you have to fill in everything or your application will be “incomplete”

@MikeT92: no. you can forget about it as it never happened :)

@kitty: yeah, can’t agree more. Soooo confusing, like the question when they asked which is your current college. It took me a while to figure out “current” mean “home college” lol. I entered 3 colleges as current because right now I’m taking classes from all these 3, and it keeps asking me for degrees at 3 even though only 1 will award me an associate degree lol.

I wish it would be cake like the TAG system. Easy to fill in, easy to edit, easy to submit :)

I looked through it for like 5 minutes, then got bored and closed it down.

so we cant submitted til nov 1?

how long does it take to complete the whole set ( personal statement finished ready to copy and paste) of the application?
