UC Application 2012 Thread

^ an hour and 30 minutes for me, minus the personal statement
I double check everything, including my grades. Normally I’d think it takes an hour b/c they ask so many questions, and you are CONSTANTLY being timed out if you left the application for like 2 minutes to pee and have to sign in again lol. No kidding, try it and see for yourself

Actually timeout is 30 mins. It says so on the page when you get to your personal statement.

Putting grades was a chore for me…I’ve been all over the place and half my grades were from out of state. It def takes a while, 1-2 hrs to make sure you put in the grades, with the right schools. Maybe longer. I filled in bout 80% of mine, but you cant send till Nov 1st anyway. Do it in pieces and come back to it. THEN put in your personal statement.

done and done. It almost feels like a test to weed out applicants if they don’t fill it in right lol.

Hoping I can get into UCLA or UCSD for applied math crossing fingers

Good luck everyone!

^ Lol, I swear I just peed and then went get a delivered box from Amazon which took less than 7 minutes and it said I was timed out.
Whatever, lol, gluck getting in LA or SD to u

just found out the TOTAL word count of the 2 prompts can have a max of 1,000 words, I thought each one could have 1,000!

Question about Personal Statement…!!

Emm…since I’m taking 5 tough classes this semester, I’ve not started writing my personal statement yet. I’m not good at writing as an international student…I do have many good ideas and impressive thoughts blablabla, but I daresay I cannot accurately interpret them on my paper…
So I’m wondering if it is common/acceptable/necessary to find an “expert” helping me revise my statement…but the problem is, they (experts) charge a lot (like 500 for an "perfect” paper)
So…any suggestions?

^ where to look for expert? im kind a curious …

@MikeT92: lol. Btw, over 1000 words is fine as long as the extra number is 20 ~ 30. Over 50 and you are in trouble for not following guidelines. I remember someone on this board was admitted to Cal and have 1080 words total though…

@chaotic: please don’t. To you what is the most important thing about the personal statement? It’s PERSONAL. That’s what it is. Just sit down, brainstorm, and write. If you don’t procrastinate, it could take you less than 3 hours to complete both prompts. It’s up to you, but my advice is not to ask for expert’s help, unless you are completely clueless.

thank you for your response sparkyboy!

Hey is there anyone know can I still drop a class with w this semester if I m planning to apply transfer this year?

^ Of course you can… just give a quick explanation in the additional comment if you want to

About going over 1000 words for your personal statement, I applied last year as a freshman applicant and the application did not allow me to exceed 1000 words for my personal statement. I don’t think that has changed, so be very anal about your word choices!

ruofei, its getting late, better get it together.

Hi kittychen…sorry what do you mean by better get it together?so I can’t drop a class this semester?it’s a calculus class…I feel like I’m gonna get a C…if I get a C my gap will fall to 3.3-3.4…

well I’m just wondering if you do understand the magnitude and importance of this semester/quarter. This is Fall 2011, not Fall 2010, not much time left to be indecisive.

its like one of your “last chances” to secure your spot for UC, and you are wanting to drop classes, and its calculus, sounds like it might be one of your major courses.

I say this because I care and want us all who have worked hard and have a decent GPA to be admitted, no time for games anymore.

It’s not my major course…my major is psychology…and I want to transfer uc irvine…I ve done my calculus 1…it’s calculus 2…I know…I’m not playing games…cuz I really want to get into uc irvine…so I wanna keep my gpa looks good…now it’s 3.46…and I can finish 60 semester units even I dropped this course…but I ll keep working hopely I can get a B…if that works I won’t drop it…

This is not my major course…my major is psychology…and I really wanna get into uc irvine…I ve done calculus 1 this is calculus 2…I’m not playing games…cuz I really want to get into uc irvine…so I wanna keep my gap looks good…it’s 3.46 now…even I drop this class I can finish the 60 semester units requirement and igetc…if I drop this class with w I may pull up my gap to 3.6…but yeah I know how important this semester is so I ll keep working hard hopely to get a B

On the “Academic History” page, under “Colleges Attended” do I list no degree/diploma/etc. received if I’m not getting an AA?

Also: On the same “Academic History” page, under “College Terms,” when I check the boxes to indicate that I don’t have grades to report for Fall 2011 and Spring 2012, an extra box pops up and asks why I don’t have the grades to report. Is this just bad system design, or what? Why would it ask me about classes that haven’t been completed or even signed-up for yet? (Under the “tell us why” box, for what I just specified, I simply mentioned “The term isn’t over yet” and “the term hasn’t started yet” – for Fall 2011 and Spring 2012, respectively.)

Thanks.

@briceies

For fall 2011 there is an option from the scroll down saying IP (in progress). Then for future semesters, you would select PL (planned). I believe at a later date you will be able to update your application with your actual courses for the spring along with the grades from the subsequent semester.

Thanks a lot, Mitch.
