^^ good advice. I was considering getting a job, but since you said that i’m not going to. I’d rather have fun and live on campus than get a job and have to live off campus. And one of my cc counselors told me that you can only receive finanacial aid for a certain amount of semester/quarters. Or maybe she just doesn’t know anything about her job like so many other cc counselors?

@kitty this is what irvine estimated for me.

Estimated Financial Aid

Grants $19,725.00 - $20,725.00
Self Help $8,700.00 - $9,700.00

LOL. I don’t know. Maybe? My ccc doesn’t give FAFSA for the winter intersessions. I don’t know if any other ccc’s are like that. With a real job you might have to work longer hours to pay off everything which could be good if you didn’t owe anything upon graduation. But with work and school, it may take you longer to graduate. And tuition goes up every year so next think you know you’ll be working longer hours to pay your tuition. So even though you don’t get money from work study, it has its upsides. Besides, college students are supposed to be poor right? LOL. What kind of college experience would you be getting if you weren’t poor? haha. i.e living off instant noodles. yummm =]

I grew up on top ramen so food-wise I’ve already experienced what college is like hahah

LOL! Actually, my brother gets all his meals paid for each quarter at LA through either FAFSA or B&G. I’ve eaten at LA when friends used to dorm there. The junk food is great but my brother is sick of it already after 3 quarters. LOL.

^^ college must suck for vegetarians. they probablly have so little to choose from.

What if I got a job in 2013? Would it affect my financial aid for my senior year since fafsa’s go by the year before?

How do you check UC-Irvine financial on how much you’ll get, UCKittychen?!

It just shows they received it…no expected funds announced yet

^^Several people posted that Irvine gave them an estimation like this post below:

the uc website has a financial aid calculator. it provides a link for each school. click on irvine.

oops, my mistake…i cant find mines then =/ just says i may qualify for priority funding based on the date they received it.

Ms Sun said in an older thread that even while the UC’s aren’t obligated to give you more than what covers your fees, you’ll probably get a decent amount more if you’re a low-income student.

Not sure why this is a good thing… In fact 8 hours a week is a joke.

@uchappytrain I can’t find the financial aid calculator, can you tell me where it is?

The FA cutoff that people have been asking about is just at CCC. Once you have more than 90 attempted units, you must petition to continue receiving aid at your CCC. I had to go through it this semester. It doesn’t affect you once you transfer though.

@uchappy you can eat vegetarian basically anywhere, it’s really not that difficult. Even Burger King has veggie burgers these days.

@lawlking jdom posted the link. it’s post #446

on the financial aid calculators it asks if youre a dependent and under the age of 24. can you be an independent student and still be under 24?

@Salmos These are the hours my brother gets doing work study at UCLA. Yeah tell me about it, 8 hours a week is a joke. Up until the fall semester I used to work 45 hours a week while going to night class. LOL

thirteen. get your fafsa in!

does anyone know if that financial aid calculator includes the cal grant?

anybody get there cal grant app in? Still have to wait for my last transcript to get cleared…should be another week or so. I am dying to know what my official transfer g.p.a is!
