UC Application 2012 Thread

fourteen & UCI Financial aid updated for me…wonder what this means, maybe nothing?

and heres a pic for those who haven’t seen a change:

http://f.cl.ly/items/3R1U0W3Z0h35232y0122/ucifinaid.jpg

^ Doesn’t mean anything, it should be like that for everyone. I didn’t even apply for finical aid and mine looks like that. If you click on “My Aid Application Status” and scroll all the way down you can see they Requested FAFSA forms today and that’s why it changed.

^I got the same thing

is it worth while to apply to financial aid if you are from a high income fam, but have a good GPA? Throughout CC I received nothing so I just didn’t bother… I’m scared that if I do apply the decisions center will see my Fam Income and discount me for it…

@ThePavin You can estimate your aid on the right hand side of this page: [University of California - Financial aid](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/paying-for-uc/financial-aid/index.html)

You can apply anyways if you are from a high income family, but chances are you aren’t going to get anything. Financial aid and admissions are two different departments and admissions isn’t going to deny you because you applied for aid and you make 500k/year. The worst thing they can do is tell you no to the aid. With a high GPA and income you have a better chance at scholarships.

Yay, FAFSA for Irvine is done! Since there will be a window of me being jobless when I transfer/move. Just paid off my car too, so that’s good =]

Ran through the Estimator, yeay i wont get anything… Should I fill out fafsa or just look for scholarships(will they email me through whatever school I apply to?)

You can still fill out a FAFSA if you want, just don’t expect anything. I didn’t/am not going to fill one out as my parents make too much and if I did for some odd reason get some aid, I’d rather it go to someone who genuinely needs it.

You already applied for scholarships when you submitted your UC app, the campuses will let you know when you get accepted if you received any.

I’m not too sure but I think to get the scholarships through FAFSA, you still have to meet the income requirements. I think that only doesn’t apply to those “competitive” scholarships that you have to compete for. My bro gets FAFSA and blue and gold from UCLA but only because he qualifies income wise. Too bad this money is going to go to illegals soon. And with tuition hikes I better graduate soon or I won’t be able to put myself through school for much longer. LOL

Since my EFC is 0 do you guys think I’ll get enough money for tuition and housing and books?

^^ that is so stupidthat theyre giving financial aid to illegals. I mean I have nothing against them , but whats the point? They can’t get a legal job here when they graduate anyways. And they’ll probably just go back to what ever country theyre from. I thought the point of financial aid was to better our country’s future, not other countires. and plus our economy is so bad I just don’t see why they let that pass. stupid brown.

I don’t think so. My little brother gets FAFSA and Blue and Gold at UCLA and he also does the work study program and he still needs at least 5k loans per year. Which is not too terrible. His EFC is also at 0. Not sure what other scholarships are available but I’m sure he would have applied for those too.

^^^ you said it! Hell, now that we’re doing that, whats stopping illegals from coming!

I used that calculator. I still have to come up with 11,000 each semester. :frowning: guess I have to get a job for sure at whichever UC I attend. working on campus won’t be that bad I guess.

The only bad thing is that you don’t get money but it does go to your tuition. It helps to build networking too because my bro does work study at the Anderson school of business and he wants to go to grad school at LA after he graduates. It’s good to be in the loop I guess. Hours are short too. I think you only work like twice a week for like 4 hours. Not bad.

so you can take out a loan to cover your tuition/housing costs each year? or can you only take out one loan the entire time you’re attending? and since I went to a ccc for three years are they going to cut off my aid, like is this my last year to receive aid?

Estimated Financial Aid
Grants $19,008.00 - $20,008.00
Self Help $8,700.00 - $9,700.00

I’m not too sure how the loans work. Why would they cut you off for attending ccc for 3 years? My bro went to cc for 2 years, and I went for 3 years too. I just know they cut you off for grad school. Undergrad should be ok regardless.

One thing to consider too, even though you don’t actually get money for the work study programs you may be better off doing that than getting a real job. If you make real money, you have to file taxes, which means you’ll get LESS aid. So you basically take away from your studying time. So if you can take loans or mooch off your parents for a little longer it may be better depending on your situation since loans you do have to pay back. My parents cut me off in 05 so I had to work work work, but FAFSA and going to ccc helped me out a lot =]

why is santa cruz estimated to be more expensive than san diego? I thought it would be the other way around. not fair.
