UC Application: How Do My Stats Look?

Hello everyone. I am a new poster to this forum. I’ve been reading for the past several weeks and some threads were very helpful.

At this point, I would like to ask a favor of any readers of this thread; what are the chances that I would get into my applied schools with the following stats?

application sent to: UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, UC Los Angeles, UC San Diego

ELC: I’m eligible, but I forgot to submit the permission slip that allows my HS to submit grades to the UC system. So… I don’t have ELC Status.

SAT I: 1400 (750M, 650V)
first test: 1290 (670M, 620V)

SAT II:
Mathematics IIC: 700
Writing: 580
Physics: 760

U.S. History: 740

GPA:
as of 7th semester: 4.63
UC A-E, as of 6th semester: 4.75
last semester (7th semester): 5.0
class rank: 3 of 500+

AP Exams: Four 4’s and 2 5’s

a few extracurricular activities, but high level leadership roles

To be honest, I didn’t really prepare much for the SAT’s. Bad mistake. If anyone needs additional info, please let me know.

By the way, the acceptances I’ve received so far is only for UCI. I got the letter on March 1st. I’m selected for the CHP (Campuswide Honors Program). However, I didn’t get any Regents/Chancellor scholarships…

You guys say that people that are beyond the college’s expectation usually get Regents/Chancellor… but if I didn’t get it… I’m worried that I won’t get into Berkeley or LA… which is where I want to attend.

Thanks for the help!!

ucapplicant05:

UCLA: Slight Reach
UCB: Slight Reach
UCSD: Match
UCI: Safety

wait flopsy..why is he slight reach..isnt he match for UCLA and BErk?He was technically ELC and his SAT scores are good except for writing. I say in to all

how can your UC gpa be over 4.5? by not taking that many classes?

DUDE dont listen to flopsy even if he goes to LA what an idiot for saying Slight Reach. It just depends on what the UCs think of you . They take various students but your stats are pretty good. ECs and good essays can help you a lot.

Are you from California? If so I bet you are in at all of them, especially if your classes were honors/AP level and if you have a high class rank (top 5% ish).

My D had slightly lower GPA, same basic SATs, 6 APs by senior year-- plus great leadership in 2 deep ECs. (Other threads have told the EC formula; basically the applicant needs 3 high-level things in a single EC for the EC to "count." For example, a kid with a sports EC needs to be captain & all-league & have played in division post-season for that sport to be an extra boost in admissions. Don't recall exactly, but something to this effect...)

Anyway, my D was in at UCSC & in at UCB.

If you are not a Calif resident it may be harder, but I'd say unless your essay topic was "How to Cheat and Get away with it," your chances at all UCs are excellent.

Good luck.

pretty much into ucla and berk, or at least one of the two, id say in at the ucsd for sure

Wow, thank you for all the quick replies!

Yeah, I'm from California.

As for the UC A-E GPA, that's what it says on my HS transcript. 10-12 (UC A-E): 4.75... well it's actually 10-11 since this was printed before the end of the 1st semester of senior year. In fact, I had ~7 courses/year. I will be graduating HS with 290 credits, 70 credits (7 year-long courses) over the graduation minimum.

Since some of you think that I have a good chance at all of them, why didn't I get any type of merit scholarship for UCI?

I was discourgaed from applying to private universities, such as USC, Stanford, or any of the Ivies. Do any of you think that those are within reach at all? Or would they have been a complete waste of money?

Thanks again!

geez guys...flopsy probably said "slight reach" for LA and CAL because of op's writing score of 580, which is quite low for the top UCs. Everything else looks great.

hey..one score can't kill ur chances.

wow ur scores are pretty close to mine
i got a 1400 (730 M, 670 V) 780 IIc 550 writeing 740 Us hist and a 720 physics

oh wow i have 4.65 uc gpa and 1440 sat 720 writing, 760 bio, 730 math iic and i got regents! i don't know how they pick it!

i think they do regents based on school or something or they have some weird formula?

yeah u have pretty good stats really this year its up to essays but your stats are pretty good, but that sat 2 writing might take u down just a little but probably nothing. just hope essays are good. flopsy is a doomas5

uc's dont care about writing that much

i say u got into at least 3 schools

Thanks again! Accepted at UCI and UCLA so far. CHP for both schools... but still no Regents or anything like that. The people that I know who got Regents had high SAT or PSAT (the merit thing).

SD should be coming out in the next few days. Cal in like 2+ weeks.

there are no guaranteed admissions for ucla and ucb, their admissions are quite random, both ucb and ucla turn down a lot of applicants with 1400's each year. Your stats do look good, I'd say you have a very good chance at both. And the other uc's are matches.
