@uctransfer2016 thing is, I can’t take those subjects because they also have pre-reqs that I’ll be taking next semester and the summer term. oh well, it’s fine. thank you so much for your help!
So hold on, if I’m a political science major following IGETC, is 2 years of a foreign language in high school sufficient? @pugzandhugz @goldencub
@Polemic is you got Cs in them at least then yea and yea no problem @ktimbarang good luck to you:)
@uctransfer2016 You can have a C- in high school, as the UCs do not recognize plus and minus signs from high school. The C- is transformed to a C. Once you hit college level, any minus in a grade is calculated.
Sorry for scaring some of y’all! I’m just really upset with myself for not knowing and now I must take a winter course, if I can even find one before the start of my spring semester at my CSU! The worst part was when the advisor told me all my stats were golden but my lack of foreign language would kick me right to the curb
@lindyk8 I really hope you’re right! That would save me a lot of time and money.
I know I’m right.
So I’m considering to apply to L&S CS instead of EECS in CoE. I don’t have IGETC and I don’t see that I can get it done in the 2 remaining quarters. I had the essential skills requirements (RC, QL, FL) for L&S but not the breadth requirements. Also on assist.org, it says that it is required for graduation, not for transferring. That said, what are the chances of being admitted without the breadth requirements or IGETC?
@lindyk8 so two years with at least a C- or better in high school will fulfill the igetc requirement?
As long as the ** very last semester **of the two years of high school language is a C- or better you will have passed two years of high school language and it will fulfill IGETC. However, weren’t you talking about Haas? You will need another semester of language that is comparable to UC Berkeley’s semester. Be sure and verify that the semester equals the UC Berkeley equivalent (if you are applying to Haas).
Are you sure about this
Look at this link
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/general-education-igetc/igetc/index.html
It says two years of high school foreign. Language
Are you a freshman. Or sophmore
I’m a sophomore if you’re asking me. Yea I am just worried because everyone at my community college has been always told me it has to be a C or higher @Pinkponylife
@lindyk8 so I’ll have to take a language this spring to meet the requirement?
or does the C- count as a C to the UCs?
A C- counts as a C from high school because the UCs do not count plusses and minuses in high school. So a B- would convert to a B, a C- to a C, etc. However, they do count them in college. So a C- in a college course will post as a C- and can be repeated, and will not fulfill IGETC, breadth or a major requirement.
@uctransfer2016 if you are talking about Haas you need another semester or year, depending on the scope of the semester class. You need the equivalent of two years of college language for Haas. IGETC needs one year of college language (one year of college language is equal to two years of high school language).
Hi everyone! My name is Bryanna!
I’m currently applying to transfer to Cal as a nutritional sciences major. I’ve completely 60 credits and the IGETC requirements at a local community college, but not all the major pre-reqs! I’ll have completed more than 60 credits by the Spring 2016 semester, and will receive my associates degree in general ed. with an emphasis in science.
A little bit about me and my application:
4.0 GPA at El Camino College
Over 500 hours of volunteer/community service at a local hospital, American Cancer Society, National Eating Disorder Assn, and a local program teaching art to children.
I’ve held three jobs since I began working my senior year of high school, so I have lots of work experience.
I’ve received academic achievement awards/scholarships in life science courses at my CC.
I’m also feeling extremely confident about my personal statements.
The only thing that has me a bit worried is that I haven’t completed all the major requirements. I have two more chemistry classes to take, but I’d rather transfer and complete them at Cal!
Does anyone know what my chances are based on my circumstances? Does Cal accept transfer students who haven’t completed all major requirements?
Thank you!
@bryannadee I think you’ll be fine. However, if it comes down between you and another student & that student completed all of their major requirements then you might not get in if that is the case. But with your EC and GPA, I think you’ll be alright. Good luck!
