@lindyk8 Thank you! @goldencub How unfortunate. That’s quite bad on the UC’s part. Thanks for the information. So did you decide to just paste it in as a block?
@blsUCtransfer Yep. I also adjusted my writing style so as to avoid paragraphs/breaks altogether, if that makes sense.
@goldencub Do you know if this is also the case for the additional comments? Mine is formatted specifically to address different schools as they advised me to.
@blsUCtransfer Good point. I have no clue. Perhaps adding a ’ / ’ or two would be of use in the additional comments section.
@lindyk8 really? even if it’s a capped major as @uctransfer2016 said? :-S
@themightybicycle Yeah, that doesn’t matter. You’re also technically admitted by division. They just want you to have your prereqs done by the Spring. Stats play more of a role than having prereqs completed by fall vs spring for capped majors, I think.
I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t put a/ at the end of a paragraph to alert the reader to a new paragraph. I know at least five people who have done that.
@themightybicycle it says clearly on the UCB psych page (assist) that pre-reqs should be completed by spring. There’re something like six req. Taking two in spring is not going to put you out of the running on it’s own. However, depending on your GPA, or if they are two super-hard courses, they may impose a grade minimum for the courses, such as B in your provisional contract, if you get accepted. It seems a bit late in the game to be contemplating this, no?
To flip the equation, if you over-load courses in a term prior to spring, you could be setting yourself up for lower grades. Anyway, the answer is you have until spring, so choose whatever feels right for you:
@lindyk8 It’s a good idea. I was just told not to write the PS split into paragraphs, and that seems to work better for me, so that’s what I plan to do.
@themightybicycle when I said it was capped I meant that because of that you need to apply as a psych major if you want to be a pysch major
@lindyk8 the thing is, they recently changed the requirement to take human physiology in that now you can take anthro 1 instead. i didn’t have time to take the prereq classes for physiology before at my college since I am also doing several classes for UCLA psych. that’s why i decided to just opt for berkeley sociology since I had both of its prereqs done.
about 2 weeks ago, i realized that berkeley changed its assist requirements so i enrolled in anthro 1 for spring and also anthro 2 (which is the other remaining prereq).
I have a 4.0 cumulative/major GPA, if that makes any difference. (I have Psych 1, Soc 1, and 2 semesters of calculus done). It’s just the two anthros which I will be taking in the spring.
@uctransfer2016 Ah, ok I see.
Submitted the application (finally). Good luck everyone!
@themightybicycle I thought because of the UCB Psych req changes, they were allowing through summer to complete pre-reqs. Let me go check.
I just checked. You have through summer due to changes, plus assist says complete as many pre-reqs as possible. I simply can’t see taking anthro in spring being an issue. They’ve been having upheavals in that dept due to the changes. They’ll probably get it - they just added anthro and dumped physiology.
Can you guys chance me for Cal based on this information? I’m a Political Science major with currently a GPA of 3.77. Someone told me that the admissions will also count my Fall GPA; they’ll actually see that before they even look at my app, apparently. So if I continue on the track I am this quarter, I will have a 3.83 GPA. So for a Political Science major with a 3.83 GPA, one B-, one B, fulfilled course requirements, no W’s, great extracurriculars related to my major, decent essays… do I have a chance? (I was just worried because the other day I saw a thread where a comp sci major was worried at his/her shots for Cal because they had a 3.77) I know my GPA is quite average, but hopefully the 3.8 will look better and the other things in my profile can make me stand out
Also, does anyone know where I could find information on the average GPA of transfer students based on major? I know UCLA gives this information, but I cannot find it for Berkeley.
@tooweirdyo You have to rely on UCLA for GPA by major. It’s the only UC with this breakdown. Add about .1 to get Berkeley’s (rough estimate).
One of my friend is saying UCs will take up to around 15 words over their 1000 word limit.
My other friend said it’s an automatic cut-off after 1000 words…
Do you guys know which is true? I’m seriously concerned. I’m a little over right now: I have 1070 words.
Thanks a lot!!!
@VeniVidiVici1 Have you not even looked at the application yet? It’s a 1000 word limit so I don’t know why anyone would think they’d accept more than that. With that said, the form won’t accept over 1000 words. Plug your essays in and it will show you exactly where you stand.
I believe it’s an automatic cut off, but why would you want to show the UCs you can’t follow rules right out the gate?
Trim.
anyone else submitting on monday?
