UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

@RAHforHEE Wow dude. You’re really not listening.

“If Stanford and Cal are at those rankings, then the Stanford students would always get the job over the Berkeley students. This is what prestige means, right? Because Stanford is ranked higher than the two, STanford would take all the jobs of Berkeley students. But that argument doesn’t hold because there are in fact Berkeley students working in those offices, so it doesn’t make sense to say that prestige matters because it NEVER WILL MATTER.”

No. This would be assuming prestige is the ONLY factor. I have said many times it is only one factor.

“And you end your argument with CSUF as if it’s a bad school. Why must you be so sarcastic? I would love to see if any of you even get into UCB, because seriously you are all not humble people at all. Its none of my business, but it’s a shame that a potential Berkeley student thinks like this.”

I never said it’s a bad school. I’m just showing that when it comes down to it, you will care about prestige just like everyone else does. I already go to Berkeley, I’m a senior.

I think the word “prestige” is really throwing you. Prestige is a reflection of how good a school is, or at least it is intended to be. Of course an employer would want an employee who went to a good school, right? Let me tell you why your argument is so ridiculous. You pretend to know what EVERY EMPLOYER in the world is thinking. How can you say with certainty that there are no employers who care at all about what school you go to? My argument is much more rational: some employers care, some care less. I have personally met employers who say they only recruit from top schools. How can you explain that, given that you have said that no employers care about prestige?

@RAHforHEE Well it’s perfectly fine to have that opinion, but it’s only an opinion. Relatively, prestige of undergrad isn’t the biggest factor, no, but it’s still a factor. It looks good on paper. It’s not as important as going to a T14 law school (in that case, prestige is incredibly important, if you don’t believe me, look it up) - but it’s still a factor.

@goldencub It is not ridiculous to hear people say that prestige is not a factor, many college counselors and even admissions representatives at the prestigious universities will tell you these same things I am trying to communicate with you!

If you are going to say that prestige matters to some extent, don’t cop out and say that prestige is equal. Prestige is not equal, that is why there are rankings, according to others on here. In theory, the UCLA grad will lose the job to the UCB grad if it is a “close” tie. Do you see how silly this sounds?

Employers do not even look at where you went to school, this is where you are confused! It’s nice to see it, but they’re not marveling over that particular accomplishment. What’s going to separate ANYONE from a crowd is their path to success, their passion, and their experiences along the way.

Say for instance two Berkeley students apply for the job, then? What prestige factor must you use? You see? There is no such thing as prestige being used in job fields, it’s just silly and an old way of thinking.

Lol holy crap you’re delusional. Jesus man get yourself together.

@music1990 No, YOU get yourself together and come back down to Earth.

How would you feel if you worked your ass off in undergrad and lost the job to someone else and you call the employer to ask what may have happened, only to hear you lost the job because someone went to a “better” school than yours.

You all can’t even answer my question about The American University. WHAT PRESTIGE IS IN THAT SCHOOL, and why is it that so many of the students are working in such a top-notch firm? It’s indeed not prestige, it is a combination of location and simple will.

By what theory? Haven’t we said over and over again that prestige is not an end all factor? That a SJSU grad can be hired over a UCB grad? And that this is not at all contradictory with our positions?

@music1990 I did not say that prestige was the only factor in that scenario, I said if both two students were equal and had the same credentials, then at one point, prestige will come into play. This does not happen, regardless. You all seem to believe that it will help you at a fractional cost, but it will never do that!

And I say that you are lying about hearing this come from an employers mouth, only to make your argument sound stronger.

My argument is not that the employer does not care about the school you go to, but will care, to some extent, about picking students based on the school they went to.

@RAHforHEE It doesn’t matter how I would feel or how you would feel. It only matter what’s true. You keep saying how you hate prestige, and that is clearly why you are denying its significance.

Here is a report on a study that shows how some elite law firms only hire from top 5 schools…

So how do you explain that?

@goldencub If you continue to say that prestige may, no matter how small it is, influence a decision, I will be the one to tell you I disagree with this statement. This is why we are going back and forth, because you believe one thing and I believe another.

@RAHforHEE disagree all you want haha

@music1990 When did I ever say I hated prestige? I wouldn’t be applying to some of the biggest UC’s if I hated prestige. The article is so silly! “Don’t go to a second-tier school like Columbia”. Here’s an article for you:

http://time.com/54342/it-doesnt-matter-where-you-go-to-college/

There are clearly different opinions on this! So, we can argue al day about it.

Lol I’m lying? Dude I go to Berkeley, and anyone who goes here will tell you that a lot of the companies that recruit here don’t recruit at lesser known schools. It’s just a fact. Many of the companies say on their postings that they’re looking for graduates from elite universities. I’m not making this stuff up bro.

@music1990 Send me a link where an employer says that. Please, make my day!

@RAHforHEE I could but you wouldn’t be able to see it without a student ID number.

And even the article you sent me acknowledges that which college you go to plays a minor role.

@music1990 You are such a liar! Take a screen shot if needed. I do not believe you will sit here and lie only to make yourself seem more credible, it’s ridiculous. You’re a Berkeley student, why are you doing this?

@RAHforHEE Lol I’m not lying bro calm down. I’ll PM you a screenshot when I get a chance.

@music1990 Okay, and I will publicly let everyone know when I get that screenshot.

@RAHforHEE I just took one. How do I send it on here?

@music1990 I sen you a PM

I received something from @music1990 and it only says a Bachelors Degree from a top university, mind you it is at the VERY bottom of the requirements list. Also, the area he is in is surrounded by top universities, including SJSU.

Other requirements included:
Exceptional one-to-one instructional ability
-Superlative drive
-Relentless dedication
-Consistent evolving
-Superior communication skills
-Work independently
-Bachelors degree from top university

Look at the ratio of skills to university ranking.
