@Molisha seems non confrontational. Like he/she gets sad when people argue.
@goldencub @music1990 @briank82 @themightybicycle @csmajortom @MikeSauce
Well, then how about we all agree to disagree and not discourage others who have been passionately speaking on behalf of their, not only opinions, but facts? You were all very distasteful in your arguments and sometimes even brought up irrelevant cases that were not related to the argument such as TAG. You should be ashamed of yourselves and learn something from this. I will continue to argue on my standpoint and if ANYONE has ANYTHING else to say about this issue, we can continue! If not, then just be quiet and do not respond!
Seriously?? A let’s bygones be bygones response, quickly followed with an insult. Can we just move this thread along, its apparent it’s getting out of hand.
@RAHforHEE Dude no one wants to discuss this with you anymore because you have no reason or understanding for the nuance of argument. It’s like you’re looking for a fight. And you’re calling us tasteless? I would take a step back and evaluate your conversational skills man.
I think that would be a good idea. I’d hate to have to shut down the thread due to a few people carrying on an argument that is tangential.
@music1990 You are all very tasteless, non-humble individuals who started out by saying prestigiousness had everything to do with opportunities, but when someone like me stepped in, you quickly changed your argument by saying prestigiousness has only a small influence! You’re all a bunch of contradicting, tasteless individuals who do not understand what I am saying.
Your first source: http://www.thecollegesolution.com/does-where-you-go-to-school-matter-to-employers/
Not a study.
Your second source: “Here is another article that focuses indirectly on prestigiousness not being a factor at all…”
http://www.overcomingbias.com/2009/03/college-prestige-matters.html"
References the same study from the TIME article. Again, we’re not debating income potential. And did you even bother reading this entire article? The article goes on to say that the Dale and Krueger study is one of the most mis-cited, and that “Whenever this study has been cited, it has always been for the exact opposite of its actual conclusion. … This demonstrates a persistent bias in which the media only reports what people want to hear instead of reporting the truth.” Kind of funny, as this is the only factual evidence you’ve used to support your position … but even then, nobody is arguing income potential.
So, you’ve yet to present anything beyond your own opinion.
“Of course you’re arguing against that because you believe prestige has some sort of influence in the decision. Obviously it does not if UC Davis kids are working in the same building as Berkeley kids.”
Prestige can play a role, but, again, it’s not the only factor. If prestige isn’t the only factor then there’ll be a wide range of qualifications that determine why a UCB alum is in a cubicle next to a UCD alum. There are too many variables involved for you to be able to point to this scenario and deduce anything from it aside from a stretch of your imagination.
“IS IT CLEAR?!”
I’ve posted legitimate studies that show correlation between prestige of school and candidate placement in the workplace. Those studies were crystal clear and work directly against your position. I don’t see how those aren’t clear and how they don’t disprove your position. But here you’ll come back with a response of yet another random article …
@“Erin’s Dad” I do not wish to carry on any arguments. I am only here to share my opinions, however, others are very insensitive to that.
You know what, there is actually another OFFICIAL UCB thread that is not tainted with this disgusting argument. Maybe we should close this one down and use the other one.
@RAHforHEE You literally just said you’re here to battle and argue…
And I said I’m ready to move on.
@music1990 No, I said if people want to continue arguing with me and not respect my opinions, then yes, I will be more than happy to defend my argument.
@RAHforHEE “Well, then how about we all agree to disagree and not discourage others who have been passionately speaking on behalf of their, not only opinions, but facts?”
LOL. FACTS? No. Presenting your opinion as fact does not make them facts. I’ve presented facts from numerous legitimate, credible studies. You have not. You have simply presented your opinion as fact, and one study about income potential.
Why are you so insecure when it comes to talking about prestige? Is it because your 3.1 GPA wasn’t good enough for USC, and you’re insecure you might not get into UCB? Is this some sort of defense mechanism that, if you don’t get in, you can pat yourself on the back saying “Pshh, I don’t care anyway. I don’t care about prestige…”
It’s just funny how worked up you get over this, and how it’s somehow your duty to defend this.
@music1990 Well, then let’s move on and not try to outdo one another in these arguments.
We have so many more things in common than that separate us! This is my overall goal of the argument; it shouldn’t matter what your position, drive or ambitions are. We are all trying to transfer or have transferred and should bring each other up and not put one another down.
@briank82 Actually, before you talk, you may want to check that USC Transfer Decision thread because I actually did get into USC that year, which is why I was asking about Financial Aid. I am not insecure at all about my GPA because it is way higher than that now. besides, half of you on here are social science majors, I am a science major and I work part time in college. My classes are way harder than the course you all have to take.
If you want to argue about this, I would be happy to do so!
@RAHforHEE Alright sounds good!
@briank82 Let’s move on man so we don’t get this thread shut down.
Oh boy.
@music1990 @briank82 Yeah, tell him to refrain from talking before he throws out claims about others GPA’s before he starts some more crap with others.
So many fallacies going on…
