UC Berkeley 2016 Transfer Thread

“You’re all insensitive! Your arguments are disgusting! You’re tasteless and non-humble! You can’t get anything through your thick skull!”

“respect my opinions!”

Might want to heed your own advice.

@sugarbabies3 Oh, are you talking about me? Are you on the side of the majority? Or are you actually going to take a stand against these non-humble people?

And just to point out to everyone; my GPA is 3.4 in science, and I am very proud of this GPA, as it is science and a lot more harder than those easy social science classes I needed to complete for IGETC. No one should be talking smack about anyones GPA on here in the first place.

It will be funny to see who does and who does not get into UCB.

@sugarbabies3 @MikeSauce @music1990 @csmajortom @goldencub @Molisha

From here on out and below this post, we should not discuss anything other than UCB. I am shutting it down right here, right now. If anyone has an issue with my point of view or stats as an applicant, you can take it up with ME in a private message! PERIOD!

Irrelevant. I am not here to pick sides. So I do not appreciate being targeted and thrashed about with the potential name calling and verbal slurring. I would just like to see this thread move along as it has provided useful information.

“half of you on here are social science majors, I am a science major and I work part time in college. My classes are way harder than the course you all have to take.”

Yeah, there’s definitely nothing non-humble about this statement. It’s also free from any baseless claims or sweeping generalizations.

I understand where you’re coming from with your point of view, but you need to work on separating your opinion from fact, and learn how to back up your opinion with fact.

“From here on out and below this post, we should not discuss anything other than UCB. I am shutting it down right here, right now.”

Funny how you think you’re the last word, or that you “shutting it down” means anything. I’ll pass on the PM you sent me.

Is it April yet?

@briank82 I have given you plenty of articles with detailed information, if you don’t like them, too bad.

I am not trying to be a non-humble person either. It is a reality that science courses are a lot ore demanding than social science courses. I mean, when I take a social science course, there is so many opportunities for extra credit, you don’t get that in science at all. Also, I am pretty sure you guys get a lot of work, too, but the level of DIFFICULTY is just not the same.

So, when someone tries to point out my “low” GPA, I simply defend myself by saying they themselves should register for some organic chemistry, molecular biology, and calculus courses before they try and judge.

If you do not wish to comply with my attempts at creating peace and moving on, then by all means. Do what you please.

@briank82 And no, it’s not April yet, so you better hold on tight.

Winter is coming…

“I have given you plenty of articles with detailed information, if you don’t like them, too bad.”

You provided articles written by journalists which had little to no value or merit, that were either opinion or based off of a widely mis-cited study (which also pertained to income potential, not job placement, getting into graduate school, etc). I provided multiple studies that showed a DIRECT correlation between a prestige school and job placement.

Again, a direct correlation. If that isn’t clear enough, here is the direct quote from the study: “Our research confirms that there is a direct correlation between institutional prestige and candidate placement.” You said, multiple times that there was absolutely no benefit when it came to job placement. You were adamant that prestige of institution was meaningless. This study, and several other studies that looked at candidate placement from top schools, showed that there is. To whatever degree that may be, these studies show that what you say is wrong. Period.

It’s odd how you have failed to address anything relating to the multiple studies I have presented that disagree with your opinion.

Oops … sorry music!

@briank82 Like I said, if you want to go back and forth, we can do it over a PM. It’s up to you.

At the end of the day, prestige does not matter.

Funny how the non-humble people never even brought up GPA, but Señor modesty over here was quick to claim that his classes are “more harder” and of a greater difficulty so his less than stellar GPA has more value than anything we have. Cool story bro!

“You are all very tasteless, non-humble individuals who started out by saying prestigiousness had everything to do with opportunities, but when someone like me stepped in, you quickly changed your argument by saying prestigiousness has only a small influence! You’re all a bunch of contradicting, tasteless individuals who do not understand what I am saying.”

LOL. kk. and let’s not forget the generalization of all of us “social science” majors on here.
:-j

@RAHforHEE You’ve shown your inability to separate fact from opinion here, or that you’re capable to back your opinion with actual studies or evidence. Continuing this in PM where you’ll continue to do the same would be a waste of time.

Best of luck with your education and subsequent career. As a science major, hopefully you’ll one day learn to actually prove something instead of resorting to “if you don’t like them, too bad.” Not sure that flies in STEM.

Peace.

@MikeSauce What are you talking about, @briank82 brought up my GPA first, I didn’t bring it up until he did. So, how am I who apparently brings it up first? And do not put more harder in quotes as if they are not. I want to see you handle a majors science course. You being a social science major, are babied in terms of work load. You all have it easy, seriously. Especially at CC.

@briank82 I have not shown any inability, I have given you sources and provided plenty of depth for you to evaluate my argument.

@themightybicycle When I made that comment, I wasn’t talking about social science majors.

@MikeSauce My GPA is not less than stellar, the average GPA that applies to UC’s as STEM is 3.4-3.5, on AVERAGE. Apparently I am in the ball park. The admitted students GPA may be higher, but the GPA is an average. STEM is hard, there is no denying that.

I want to see you take a few STEM courses in a semester. You don’t know the struggle of being STEM. Working part time, doing internships on the side and taking difficult courses is not an easy task.

Respect that, because this “non-stellar” GPA may get into UCB over you. So, be careful how you parade around here.

I put more harder in quotes because the grammar is bad, your syntax in general isnt very well put together, didnt want to hurt your feelings so I was trying to be implicit about it. Also I meant that no one was bragging about their GPA or trying to make it seem like their GPA was somehow better.

I mean I tutor Calculus like 8 hours a week, so I would have to argue that I am not a complete idiot, thanks for the vote of confidence tho.

@MikeSauce You have plenty of syntax error in your grammar as well, this isn’t some journal or English paper we are writing. I didn’t make my GPA seem like it was better. I simply brought an understanding to why a STEM GPA may not be as high, in some cases, as a social science GPA.

And I am not knocking your hustle for tutoring math, I’m not saying you cannot handle the subject. Anyone is capable of handling them, but doing well and ending up with a 3.8 GPA is very hard, especially being a CC student when you have other things going on in your life.
