i might join the peralta math engineering science medicine club thing… do you guys have that club?
@EECSProdigy I dunno. Probably, I’m sure it’s on the BCC website. I’m only in clubs that are very loosely clubs (hardly have anything to do with student gov), and they’re not related to stem at all, so I can’t tell you. Look it up, they probably have something for you at Laney, too.
@goldencub do you have a reason behind only taking “loosely clubs”?
wait how are clubs at CC? can you show up one day, take the credit, and never come back? Do you always have to attend to put it down?
@Iwillbeahaashole Well, no. I’m in two clubs: one is Philosophy Club, which is held during one professor’s office hours in a coffee shop. We aren’t funded or anything, we just sit around in a coffee shop for a couple hours per week and talk about philosophy. The other is Chess Club, and we’ve pretty much severed our ties with the school government because they lost our chess boards/sets, didn’t admit to it, leaving us in the lurch. They’re official clubs, but they’re not hardcore clubs with ambassadors and whatnot. Or maybe there are ambassadors. I’m not quite sure. I am involved with both of them, though. They’re just not particularly formal. You aren’t bound to attendance, it’s relaxed.
@EECSProdigy You have to be regularly involved. I mean, of course, you don’t have to go every single day, but definitely participate in clubs that you’re interested in and want to go to, if you do at all.
I enjoy the ones I’m in.
@goldencub i’m a psychology major. senior year just wasn’t my year and i got distracted/caught up in a lot of home//family stuff. i definitely made a huge change though when i entered college and set my focus straight (which what i’m writing about in my essays). i have never wanted anything more, which is why i’ve been maintaining my 4.0 throughout
@EECSProdigy Just having a few random clubs you’re involved in but aren’t involved in a leadership capacity probably won’t get you too far. Sure, it’s better than nothing, but everyone will have a few random clubs they’re member of and even more so, plenty will have clubs that they founded or hold a leadership position in or ones that they can list significant achievements of what they personally did to the group.
@briank82 I have solid personal statement topics. Those topics however are my really good 2 extracurricular activitities. I dont’ want to be redundant and list the same topics in my EC list when it is already written in my PS… So I want to pad up the EC list with some projects/clubs. I’m not going to have much time during the year since I’m taking 24 units. To alleviate the pressure, I have started studying the topics I’m going to take… so shouldn’t be THAT bad. The good part is I don’t have to work or take care of a gf/wife/kid… Hopefully I pull it off
@themightybicycle won’t be held against you. They just request them so that you can get unit credit if your scores are high enough. Don’t worry about it.
@goldencub Appreciate it. Got freaked out there a little ^#(^
Can you guys chance me.
I’m a CS major.
GPA: 4
Major GPA: 4
EC’s: I just have 3 year experience as a tutor in an English Center. I’ll be a Math tutor in my CC this Fall.
IGETC: Done by Spring 2016.
Major GPA: 4 (only 1 class. I need 2 more classes at CC and UCB bridge to complete CS61B). Done by Spring 2016 as well.
I’m taking 15 units this summer. 3 As already. I’m trying to get an A in Math 2 otherwise it’s gonna be my first B.
@EECSProdigy have you taken CS61A at laney? I already registered but thinking about dropping it since I have Chem + Differential Equations and another CS class at my CC. I heard the teacher of the class is easy. Is it true?
wait are you applying EECS or L and S CS?
@phuongtd13 Also what classes have you completed? Haven’t taken 61A yet
@EECSProdigy
I’m applying L&S. Only 6 GEs, math 1, 1 CS class. I need 2 more and the bridge course to complete 61B. I’m taking math 2 right now.
The 61A at laney is only in the Fall right?
@phuongtd13 I think, I’m not sure… I’m going to have all the GE’s done + CS 61A/B/C transfer equivelents done by spring. We have a EE 40 transfer class, but they changed EE 20/40 to EE 16A/16B. Also what do you mean GE’s? math is part of the GE right?? its:
GE’s:
Calculus I
Calculus II
Calculus III
Linear Algebra
Differential Equations
calculus physics: mechanics
calculus physics: e/m
english 1
english 2
STRONGLY RECOMMEND:
CS 61A
CS 61B
CS 61C
CS 70
EE 16A
EE 16B
@briank82 yeah I talked to her the other day and she gave me some essay strategies/outline worksheets, whenever you talk to her make sure and ask for them.
@phuongtd13 Yeah CS61 with McDermott is supposedly super easy, especially for those with programming experience already, and yes the class usually isn’t taught both school semesters.
@napapapa how do you know? Have you taken it? I’m taking it this fall
CS friends within the peralta system. @EECSProdigy
Stay clear of Nguyen at your time within Laney btw.
@napapapa are you doing CS? If so, what courses have you finished?
