Any Psychology or Sociology majors from Peralta system? (BCC, Laney, Alameda, Merritt)? I was nervous about my GPA but then I talked to a transfer student who was accepted with a 3.5 GPA so I don’t feel as freaked out anymore.
Psych is impacted @boxandwhiskers - what’s your GPA? do you have any major-relevant EC’s, will you complete all major prereq’s and general ed? Definitely easier to get in as a Soc major, but it’s not impossible (granted, I don’t know what your GPA is).
Nice to see so many people from Peralta.
@goldenclub For sure. Sometimes I feel like dealing with BCC is pretty painful. BCC in particular has not been helpful and I learned the hard way that I can’t really depend on them to be as helpful as I need them to be, Laney has been the kindest to me (plus they have the best WIFI connection).
Anyway, I’m at a 3.7 and I have 2 more semesters left until I graduate. I’m applying to transfer to UCB and UCLA, and submitting a TAG to Davis. I’ll have all my prereq’s done by the end of Fall semester. I’ve been kind of on the fence about my major, I entered as a Psych major and it’s always been my main interest, but now I’m kind of way more into Sociology even though I want my main focus to be Social Psychology, which is a little bit of both (or considering double majoring or having a minor in one of them or just getting a BA in Psych, and then a Masters in Social Work or Sociology). I know that the Psych prereqs are super intense and the major (Stats was painful only because I had Zhiv and his grading system is awful) is impacted so i’m considering transferring as a Sociology major instead.
@boxandwhiskers I just go to Cal all the time, their CalVisitor Wifi is great.
Anyway, you have a solid chance. Try to raise your GPA this Fall, if possible (they’ll consider your GPA up to the end of the Fall). It seems like you should apply as a Psych major, and possibly add a minor in Soc later, but do whatever you think is best.
Ah, yeah I’ve heard tons of bad things about Stats at BCC.
Hello! First time posting, was hoping someone could chance me! Interested mainly in Cal and UCLA. Applying as a junior from a CA community college.

Also, have a German diploma from the German Agency for Schools Abroad & attended a German Immersion school in CA for elementary and middle school–I’m not a native German speaker, but I’m wondering if I can be turned down for having too much of a background in German?
dam this homie be hittin german frauleins^^^
@CalRadical
Your ECs and German involvement look impressive, and i think your gpa is on par with other social science transfers, so I think you have a good shot. Good luck!
Also I don’t think having a lot of German classes will prevent you from getting in, if anything I think it shows how determined and interested in the field you are.
Hey guys I was apart of an accelerated high school program where I got to take a CSU class while being a highschool student. The class is an intro to government, but I got an A- in that class. I was wondering if that class is even “uc transferable” since it is a CSU class. Furthermore, would my gpa be a 3.7 for that class since I took it at a state college and got an A-? Do the UC’s cound pluses and minuses IF the class was taken at a CSU? (Sacramento)
You have to report everything and then they will determine what to do.
@MikeSauce Do you know if that includes high school classes where you got dual credit? I have like one dual credit for some random computer class from 2007.
Are you guys going to write the extra prompt? What do you put there? Also, what awards do you put? I don’t have jack squat… gg noobs
Also for the official application, it says “list your extracurricular activities since 9th grade”… Does that apply to us too? Can we put stuff from high school?
@EECSProdigy as far as I know Haas applicants are the only ones who get to do an extra prompt. Everyone else only has two. Or at least I only have two prompts and I’m applying for EECS.
Are we allowed to put scholarships we received as an award/honors?
@Evilcow867 I’m applying EECS too… Are you looking at the official application? It says : “If you wish, you may use this space to tell us anything else you want us to know about you that you have not had the opportunity to describe elsewhere in the application.”
@EECSProdigy that’s not an extra essay prompt that’s for any additional comments you have. I’m pretty sure that if you put another 500 word essay there they won’t be very happy
@evilcow867 the best way to know is to contact the CC and ask if you have a transcript, but it sounds like it is not really a college course. It must be taken via the college, be in the college catalog for that year. If the course was taken at the high school, and is listed in the hs transcript, it is not a college course.
@hardworker223, you must include the CSU class even if it is not transferable (but it may indeed transfer). If it is not transferable they will not calculate it in the UC GPA.
@selimpride yes, put scholarships in as awards/honors.
@EECSProdigy, re ECs, if you recently graduated from high school, you should add pertinent hs ECs from 11 and 12th grades. If high school was quite a while ago, I’d forget about it.
I’m just going to have a <250 word essay in the extra space on a misc. topic. Why would you leave it blank?
Also if you have a cancelled AP score how do you input that into the application?
@lindyk8 Thanks. I only have one but guess it couldn’t hurt to note it.
