Do I have a good chance of getting into Berkeley if I got the engineering likely letter from UCLA? I’m an EECS major btw (rip)
@jaquabert I’ve heard that the top 25% of admitted UCLA engineering students get the LL so I’d say that you’re in good shape. Did you get a LOR request from Cal?
BTW, I got a LL from UCLA but no LOR request from Cal. I’m also an eekz admit.
@CaliBoi4567 nope I didn’t get the LOR. Is that a good sign considering I got the LL?
Will UCB cut down on OOS and/or International applicants this year?
Not likely that they would cut down.
@magiebaste no, no dont go get lost! It is not a reflection on you nor does it define you as a person. You will end up where you are meant to be and will have a great experience.
did anyone else apply for global edge at UCB
@letsshare thanks, cause I heard somewhere that UCLA did. Is that true?
Hey guys, I got waitlisted for UCLA’s Computer Science & Engineering today. However, my dream school is UC Berkeley, and I applied to Berkeley for L&S CS. Do you guys think that getting into L&S at Berkeley is easier than CS at UCLA for College of Engineering?
Also, I have been accepted into UCD, UCI, and UCSD for CS in College of Engineering.
@johnlimster
Both are different schools, and both are among the most selective schools in the nation. From this point one, all you can do is hope for the best. Best of Luck
GUYS this thread on the LOR helped me so much. if you guys have unanswered questions about the LOR check it out: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/1970841-berkeley-letter-of-rec-info.html#latest
Accepted
ACT 30
GPA 3.86 unweighted/4.1 weighted
Good ECs
only school I applied to
@bestfreshstart the budget in California is not wonderful and the schools are able to charge higher tuition for OOS and international students. I heard that they are getting some pressure to accept more CA students but if they do that too much it will also limit their campus diversity which they like to have. Good luck!
I heard the the LOR was somewhat random. Especially since they sent them out so early in the process
@johnlimster I think that UCLA CS in their engineering school should be pretty similar in selectivity to UCB LSCS. I went to UCLA for 8 weeks for a summer research program and I got to talk to an AO at the engineering school.
If you really want more info (I would advise against this actually because you will begin to overthink this), feel free to PM me and I’ll share what info I have.
@dancingsloth i don’t think they were so much “random” as just an automatic calculation of gpa and sat scores. They did mention that there was an initial review. Plus, what’s the point of reading extra letters of rec from people who have no chance at berkeley?
Is it true that it’s rare to get into both UCLA and Cal? Why would it be?
@nervous17yearold no it is not because most students that get into one usually get into both as they are highly qualified students
nervous17yearold. I heard the same thing, but I think it may just be people’s assumptions. I think it comes from people saying that the schools want to protect their yield number so if Cal accepts you UCLA may reject you. I dont know how true this is, but I have read that Cal reviews your app for holistically. My son got into both so maybe you will too!
@DaCheaPet ok good. got into to UCLA today but really hoping for Berkeley
