UC Berkeley Appeal (2016)

So I figured that there is such a thread for each year, so might as well create one for this year. I had the following questions about appealing my decision:

  1. Do we have to do everything online via MAP@Berkeley?
  2. I read that people sent LoRs and other supplement information as well. However, when I opened the appeal form it directed me to a page where I can write a 500 word write-up and then it asks me to submit it. How do I send LoRs and other supplement information?

Hi!! Im in the same boat as you! I’ve heard that they dont want any additional LoRs or materails but not sure! Also what are you planning on writing about in your essay??

I am adding somethings I feel I didnt add in my main app, more like hobbies. Also I want to update them with some of my school grades. People have been sending LoRs before, just wondering is there any way to send them this year as well.

Hey guys i dont get it. Where on MAP@Berkeley does it let us upload our appeal letters? I can’t find it anywhere

I submitted my appeal today. Does anyone know how long it will take to receive a response?

@plsplsacceptme Click on the the “Freshman FAQ - March 24, 2016” link below your Berkeley decision. Scroll down to the question where it talks about the appeal process. At the end of the answer there’s a link to the form.

@nobelcollegekid Well it’s confirmed to be before June 1st. I had a friend who successfully appealed, and he received his letter roughly 3-4 weeks after appealing. But that’s just one case…

@mikuru Thanks for the reply. I guess it depends on how many appeals they receive. I’m not too hopeful my appeal will be successful but it is worth the attempt. All it will cost me is my deposit to Harvey Mudd. (Which is well worth it in my opinion.

I think most of them usually come out around May 1st-15th, not sure. I heard a lot of May 1st accept cases, though.

I didn’t get into any UC. I got wait listed for UC Davis but Berkeley is my top choice. What got to me the worst is that I was suppose to get my tuition payed for at Berkeley |:
Hoping my appeal letter changed things ", if not I don’t think I’ll be able to attend college /:

@DanGon Just curious, how would tuition be paid for at cal but not for any other uc (or other schools in general)?

It should be updated on Map@Berkeley, when the decision is uploaded. Probably will send you an email too.

I basically got a scholarship for it (well if I was admitted) It was for tuition and dorm. So I wouldn’t have to pay a single thing

For the rest of the UC’s I have to pay my entire tuition, I mean I could go to a Cal State but the thing is I’m going to be paying nonresident tuition for some reason.

If I’m appealing, should I still submit my housing form as soon as possible for UCSD when it comes out? Will my SIR be irreversible once I submit the housing?

Does your guys portal say that you have appealed?

It should only show under the actual appeal form - the deadline is May 1st, so don’t expect your portal to change until then.

Sorry in advance if this has been answered already, but I was wondering: does anyone know how many people appeal, and what is the acceptance rate of those who appeal?
