Hey I got a LOR request today. I honestly don’t know if its good or bad, especially since so many people has gotten them. I’ll be optimistic and say good.
I’m OOS.
I have a 34 ACT and a weighted 96.39 avg at my school with 4 AP taken sophomore/junior year (all 5s -> World, Bio, English Language and US History) & this year I’m taking 5 APs. I didn’t submit any SAT stuff, and my extracurriculars are weekend language school for all four years, summer camp for two months this summer as a counselor (which I talked about in one of my essays), vice president of model un, I work at a store as a sales associate, I tutor for free an elementary school student & ppl at my school, equestrian team (2 years), some involvement in clubs like film club, and ap bio journal club, etc. my huge time commitment to art/design, and a science camp during spring break this year.
is it true that so many have gotten them? like is it possible that it’s the general “most of the people who post are the most qualified” because I heard they were asking 20%
Got the request yesterday and just from the data set going around on the threads here I’d say just go with the flow.
For me, these are my stats:
UC GPA: 4.43 weighted, out of state (probably like a 3.98 ish unweighted or something like that. All A’s except for AP Stat sophomore year)
SAT: 2230 (2300 superscored though they don’t consider) 780 on SAT Lit and 740 on SAT US History
5’s on five AP tests, and two 4’s
Pretty good EC’s and etc, some state writing awards and from Scholastic Art and Writing Awards as well
English major
It might seem like a lot of people got the email on this forum, but the only people researching it are those who got the email…Realistically about 20% of applicants got it.
Hey guys, I took Honors Precalc in 10th grade, got a B 2nd semester and retook it over the summer and got the same grade (I know, stupid but what can I do now)…on my transcript it says “no grade” for 2nd semester because it was replaced by the summer school grade, but on the UC app I put it as a B. I realized that it actually brings my UC GPA down because counting up the Bs that means there’s an extra one. I feel like this is something really petty to email them over, but I’m worried they won’t notice and fix it…is it worth it to email?
(Also, I submitted at 7pm Nov 30 and got the LOR request 6 days later, for anyone wondering. Applied to CS in L&S.)
So UC Berkeley engineering has an acceptance rate lower than 9%, as opposed to the university wide 18%. I was not expecting that low of an acceptance rate for engineering.
I got a request for a LOR, with the following stats:
SAT: 770R,800M,750W (2320)
GPA: 3.93 UW
SAT II: 800 Math II, 800 Physics, 780 Bio-M
APs: 5 4’s, and 3 5’s
I applied on 11/29 and I received my LOR request on 12/5. I am an OOS applying to the college of letters and sciences or whatever its called. I got a 31 on my ACT, 4.0 unweighted uc GPA, and i had very good ECs and Community service. I did bad on my SAT Math II subject test, 680, 750 on Spanish. Im not an american citizen and was born in a foreign country, but I live in the US and didn’t apply as an international student. Also if I reported an SAT II on the application, do I have do send the score to berkley and is it too late?
Literally every kid from my school who applied (both qualified and not) received a letter of recommendation request from Berkeley. They may be requesting LORs regionally to test out this new system. I really would not worry if you did not receive a request.
Yeah I haven’t gotten anything either. As far as I know they only plan on requesting them from about 20% of applicants. I’ll ask people at my school tomorrow if they’ve gotten anything.
