has anyone gotten off the waitlist for undeclared engineering at all? do they release decisions by major?
Does anyone know how many waves there are in total?
I do not understand why anyone would go to UCLA over Berkeley. Berkeley stronger academically across the board, and is a much more fun, enjoyable school with well-rounded students. If you visit UCLA and talk to students, they don’t seem very happy.
What are the chances of getting off the waitlist? anyone know past years stats on it?
This is misinformed in so many ways.
Why do you think the majority of kids choose UCLA over Berkeley and not vice versa? Obviously, it’s not because of academics, as I’ll agree with you that Berk. is pretty much stronger across the board.
Rather, it’s because of the environment. Berkeley is very notorious for having one major group of students: Asian gunners and nerds who make grade distributions absolutely cutthroat.
UCLA hasn’t developed this reputation yet (although it probably should, especially for pre-meds), and the location (LA) is much better.
Furthemore, UCLA’s marketing team has done a much better job of selling the school to applicants while also increasing prestige. It’s not even close in terms of the numbers of apps., while the acceptance rate is also a decent amount lower at UCLA.
I agree with you for the most part. However, I have to point out that Asian stereotype is not 100% true. I have Asian friends failing in Berk too. And you really can’t generalize the grade deflation ONLY on Asian. Remember that 60% of the school is not Asian and you know, there’s nerds in every culture I’m pretty sure.

On the other hand though, just to add on to the environment part-Cal is not in a great location in terms of safety and money. You’re surrounded by a pretty sketchy area and because it’s in the Bay Area, the rent is very expensive. Off-campus housing is expensive and on-campus housing is not guaranteed+tight. Moreover, due to it’s reputation of being cutthroat, a lot of pre-med students might be scared away and pick a “easier” school to attend. The art majors in LA are also better than Berkeley.
Lastly just some personal opinion, but I like the LA area a lot more than Berkeley. I like the weather better there because Bay Area=windy and cold everyday. And I feel like the whole LA area has a lot more to explore than Berkeley. Especially for people like me who lived in San Francisco probably don’t find this area interesting anymore and would love to go to a new place!
How many people are seeing 4 addresses?
Number of addresses is irrelevant please stop mentioning them everyone. The only real indication of admission off of the waitllist seems to be that fact that when some people clicked the app decisions faq on bottom of waitllist letter they were sent to admitted students faq on the day that they released the first wave.
Got admitted on May 7th. Indeed, the waitlist FAQ changed to Admissions FAQ around 4 hours before 3:00 PM.
Stats submitted: 1220, 1320 SAT
ACT: 25
AP: LANG, 3
Subject Test: SAT Math 2- 600
GPA: 4.0 uw/ 4.27 w.
bunch of ec’s etc.
Fairly certain the majority of kids do not choose ucla over ucb. Check the yield rates. Really isn’t necessary to compare the schools to try to prove which one is “better”, we all have different preferences.
did anyone get in without a faq link glitch??
did anyone get in with WAITLIST FAQ changing to Application FAQs?
I have the same glitch on my portal. Wondering the same thing…
My Waitlist FAQ disapeared
ooooh it came back and it says application now
It changed for me too. Is it a sign of the end?
No idea but this is killing me.
Can someone pls clarify…where is this “application FAQs” glitch supposed to be located (where was the “waitlist FAQs” located for them?)
It should be on the portal-- under status update. You could also find it under “display” opt in waitlist (but mine is gone).
does anyone still have waitlist FAQs available?
