The red parking structure is your best bet on Durant near Telegraph. The hourly rates are reasonable. As with any place in Berkeley, don’t leave anything in your vehicle, visable or not. Break-ins are common if you tempt the thieves.
@Goldikova There may also be available street parking right now near campus because of the much reduced campus population due to Covid. You might luck out.
You can also try parking near the north side of campus, near Euclid – it’s quieter and easier to find a parking spot. Just walk in through the North Gate and you can walk straight through to the busy side (south side, which is the Telegraph area).
I usually park free on street side near Hearst… you can try this: Berkeley Parking - Free Parking, Garage Deals & Street Parking Rules | SpotAngels - April 2023
Hi everyone. I just want to know some more information about premed and MCB at Cal. If there is anyone that could I could direct message to answer some specific questions (possibly juniors and seniors at Cal) that would be great!
Congratulation!! is he IN or OOS? and may I ask what is his major?
Do you have to submit your SIR to apply for the SEED program?
No.
I live in Berkeley. I and others walk through and around the campus regularly and there is plenty open (cafes, restaurants—takeout and outdoor dining) around campus. Enjoy! And congrats on the acceptance! My son is waitlisted but doesn’t seem too put out about it since he’s likely to want to go somewhere new. Headed down to SoCal next week to try to decide between UCLA, UCSD, and UCSB. Hope those campuses are open enough to walk around!
Thank you! I can confirm you can walk around UCSD, UCSB, and UCLA though I am not sure what if any stores and shops on campus are open. Congrats to your son. As an alum of UCSD and UCLA I can confidently say your son has some awesome options!
@GoldRush2 UCSD is opened. We drove down this last weekend. The campus is amazing and if your kid got into the Sixth college, they’ll be swooned.
For folks who live in the area or are students at Cal, are e-bikes commonplace? I am trying to think of transportation options for my kid since having a car as freshman is unlikely. Are there safe places to store/lock them on campus, at the dorms, around Berkeley? At least where we live in south OC e-bikes are everywhere.
No one has e-bikes, my daughter says they’d get stolen in a minute. Undergrads WALK everywhere, athletes have Vespa-type scooters (apparently so they don’t over exert themselves on the hills ) and grad student ride traditional
bikes, because they usually live further out. No one rides skateboards because of the hills.
You really can walk everywhere easily. And the BART station is nearby if you want to go to San Francisco.
Well that will be disappointing for my kid. I guess because e-bikes are so popular here in Socal I would expect the same at Cal. Maybe it just the dad in me but I would feel better knowing my kid had some mode of transportation aside from her feet.
My son, who’ll be a freshman in the fall, wants an e-bike but his sister laughed. Not a “thing”.
Well that is enough validation for me!
It’s very walkable to campus and all around campus, even from the furthest dorm. My daughter has walked everywhere all 4 of her years at Cal. They Uber to places further out…mostly to SF.
is it necessary for an undergraduate to have a car on campus? or helpful? is there parking?
Have you visited the campus…
