pinker, your dilemma between Cal and UCLA and my dilemma between Cal and USC is something worthy of a sit-down+pot of coffee+pack of smokes. Like a really intense discussion. haha.

If I get into Cal, I will TOTALLY need a stay-up-all-night-getting-high-and-talking a la Kerouac’s On the Road. For years and years I thought I would choose Cal over any other school without a second thought.

And then I got into UCLA.

Now . . . I’m not so sure. In my mind Cal is in a better location, has slightly better name recognition / prestige, is much more convenient in terms of how far I’ll be from my family, and just has that aura of “my dream school” surrounding it. But now if I actually get in, I’ll have extensive campus visits, researching, asking around, begging for info, etc. deciding between the two ahead of me. But if I am rejected . . . decision made. Easy. No turning down amazing schools that 10 years down the road I might realize I wouldda-shouldda-couldda attended. I will be absolutely ecstatic to get into Cal (and actually WANT to live in Berkeley rather than LA–does that make me a complete freak?) . . . BUT, there’s still that but.

Yeah to be honest I was kind of let down by the city of Berkeley when I visited. Seriously did not live up to my expectations, which were already pretty low. :(

I love the Berkeley area. It’s a very raw and real place. It’s a huge melting pot of cultures and it’s a place where no one really judges others. I love it. It might be pretty dirty with some homeless here and there, but I don’t mind at all.

im totally for ucla and my mind is made up, but then again i always hate making decisions

good luck to everyone! man, cal isnt as exciting as ucla though lol… it doesnt have the crazyyyy threads and hype which made it so much more exciting! A lot of people wanted to go to ucla this year
