Hi!! I got rejected from Cal (very expected but sad nonetheless) and I want to try appealing. I know chances of getting accepted by appeal are slim, but I’d feel better than not trying at all since this is my dream school.
I got rejected because I had almost none of the recommended major prep courses done so it’s understandable. I’m going to try to send in my appeal ASAP but they’re due May 15 for all UCs I believe.
Just thought I’d make this thread for common questions we have.
@eakazantseva I am in the same boat as you. I had a 4.0 and was completely the rest of my pre-reqs in this Spring. I am really confused and do not even know what to write in my appeal, but I just know that I am going to. Does anyone know when we get notified if our appeal gets accepted?
Everyone - Appeals are very specific in what they’re asking for.
You don’t appeal about something you were lacking & therefore want to explain why. That doesn’t work since they already reviewed your application & rejected you because of it.
Instead - You can appeal only if something “new” and also “significant” has changed that’s not in your application already.
The reason most appeals are unsuccessful is that people are just repeating their same application (which has already been reviewed & decided upon) but are now offering an explanation as to why.
@nontraditional Well, I am not sure what else to mention besides the fact that I have A’s in the rest of my pre-reqs that I am completing this semester. It says we can mention grades in our appeal. Although, I do not know what else I could mention. I had good extracurriculars and solid personal statements, but since I was applying in 1 year, I had a lot of classes in progress this semester. Hopefully explaining that I have A’s in them and further explaining my case of why I want to go to Cal for my major will help, but I know it is unlikely. I guess only time will tell.
Hi everyone,
How can I get contact for admission office of L&S for inquiries about reason for rejection amidst the COVID-19? I tried calling them but only received machine answer rather than admission officer.
That’s a good GPA - I’m sorry! Find the email for admissions (get the email of a specific person so it doesn’t go to a random desk) and ask them what you’re lacking/ what you could have improved on, etc. They’ll most likely give you a copy & paste response but at least try to get something out of them that you could address in your appeal. But again, appeals are only if something new came up after the application or wasn’t mentioned in the application that you want them to consider.
Your GPA is high enough that you’ll get into other great schools in that major.
Hello! It seems that this thread isn’t as active, but I appealed to UCB as a Cell and Molec Bio major I was actually admitted to Cal last year, but due to family circumstances in my last semester and I got a bad grade in a required class. Retook the class and got an A, but was devastated to receive the rejection letter this year. Haven’t gotten any emails or updates yet, so I’m still waiting. Apparently the results come out around June 15… Best of luck to everyone who appealed!
Same I haven’t heard back yet. The admissions live chat isn’t so helpful either. I believe the first wave of transfer waitlist decisions are coming out today but not sure about appeals
I havent gotten anything back too… As far as I’m aware the Cal transfer waitlist thread is hoping that there will be a wave tomorrow. I’m not sure if Cal would take waitlist students as first priority and then pick appeals if spaces remain, or if appeal and waitlist students are considered together.
I just wanted to let you know I am a transfer waitlist applicant and a handful of students have gotten in no one knows what is going on and their live chat reps have given us conflicting information.
@“UCLA22CogSci/LINGCS” Thanks for the information! That’s upsetting to hear, I hope Cal gives all of us news soon. I wish you the best on getting off the waitlist
I’m a physics major transferring from a CCC and I appealed because I didn’t submit the required breadth form so, my application was automatically rejected without it being reviewed. I explained why I missed completing it (provided new info) and why I want to go to UCB. I have SIR’d UCSB for now. The wait is killing me
Good luck to everyone!
