Just thought I would make this thread to kick off the new cycle. Saw a lot of people mentioning appealing in the main thread and thought we could move it to its own thread for future applicants to get a good idea of what worked and what didn’t.
I sent in my appeal the day they released admission decisions since I knew I was going to be rejected due to an error where I applied with 59.3 units instead of 60. I appealed for UCSB and UCSC and got in, now just waiting on Berkeley. I’ll keep you posted
@m_nugget Good Luck! and did you spend your whole appeal talking about the unit miscalculation? or did you talk about anything else.
@Joseph590 I mentioned what went wrong and why, but only briefly. I added why I would be a great candidate for admissions too and how rejection was only a setback in achieving my goals stuff along those lines…
@Pepsi1022 thx for making this!
@GoodAfternoonSir Yes of course! Hoping to help out someone appealing in the future. Whats your basis for appealing if you dont mind sharing.
Also do you know if its rolling and when it will start?
@Pepsi1022 So @imstressin messaged me and said that UC Berkeley admissions said they’re not rolling, whereas UCLA admissions said that appeal decisions are rolling. Honestly, I feel like appeals should be rolling because I think It’s a first come first serve kinda thing.
@GoodAfternoonSir they aren’t rolling this year? They usually do, right?
@Pepsi1022 No idea. The person i mentioned called admissions and asked them directly, they said nope.
@pepsi1022 they aren’t rolling, I called admissions and he told me they start looking at appeals May 1st, and around Mid May decisions will be out
@m_nugget Are you sure? Appeal decisions are due May 15th. I think all decisions are posted by July this year. I checked out previous threads and it seems that acceptances are given around the mid-month before the month when all decision posts are completed.
So this would mean that decisions would start posting around mid-june this year? I’m not 100% sure and this is purely based on speculation and checking out posts from previous UC Berkeley appeal threads.
@GoodAfternoonSir I thought it was pretty weird too, idk ive called twice and gotten different answers each time. The first person told me no later than July 1st, but ive seen the threads from last year were around June… I hate that they cant just give a set date since they aren’t rolling…
@m_nugget I think it’s great that you successfully appealed into UCSB and UCSC. I hope you get into berkeley. You have a legitimate reason why they should reconsider their decision and with that being said, I think you should be able to get in.
It’s safe to assume that the sooner we send in our appeals, the better because I feel like it’s a “first come first serve” kinda dilemma. I hope this isn’t true though because I made an arrangement with my professors to allow me to complete my finals earlier so I’ll know what my final grades are before submitting the appeal. I’m planning to explain along with my compelling reason that has pointed out a discrepancy that occurred during fall 2018 that I’ve received A’s in 10 classes this semester.
checked previous years, early June seems to be the spot for those accepted. Late June for rejections and in previous years, it was rolling.
@Lanjicucksmoke Maybe even earlier given how early decisions came out this year.
Very true, I turned in my appeal early; Hopefully the earlier you turn it in, the faster you get your response back
I read somewhere too that the appeals process is two-tiered. Like the appeal committee reads it, and if they think you should be reconsidered, they send it to your major department and they’ll accept you if they have an open space. So it’s like two hurdles to jump through. But I’m pretty sure most of us will hear sometime in June. I sent in my appeal two days after I got rejected so I’m hoping that they end up sending them out on somewhat of a rolling basis, I don’t want to live my life in this anxiety until July
@noir0neko Interesting I didnt know that. However I don’t feel like our major departments are going to be making the decision? I wish I knew more about the appeal process.
@Pepsi1022 I totally agree. I read it on a past thread or on one of the appeals sites, I can’t remember. The people looking at your appeal will be making the actual decision, however, if the department doesn’t have any more space available then they can’t accept you is how I understood it. So, it’s part how good your appeal is and part chance on the availability within your major… not sure how accurate this representation is but that is what I read about it
