UC Berkeley Fall 2020: Transfer Thread

@theladykatie if ever there was a compelling argument to be made for exception this is it. I’m sorry you’ve had such a rough time but you sincerely tried to make it work despite the obstacles and that speaks to the strength of your character. In your case I would definitely contact admissions, summarize the situation and see if a summer class would be acceptable.

Doesn’t mean they will be understanding but I feel its worth a try. Good luck!

@theladykatie , again I agree with @SatanFlower69 . Contact admissions!! And maybe contact their disability services office; who knows, maybe they’ll advocate for you. I would also get someone in your disability services office to write something for you. Perhaps even the instructor of the class you dropped could ad something. I know not all of this is possible; I’m just suggesting you pull out all the stops to advocate for yourself, and be sure to contact Cal, but also schools that are your other choices.

Good luck.

Hi all,

I hope everyone is hanging in there as we await our admissions decisions. I figured I’d also make a post as I’m waiting for mine. My stats are as follows:

GPA: 3.87

Credits: fulfilled required 60 semester units before applying to transfer (IGETC)

Major: Sociology

Work experience: on-campus English tutor at local community college (3 semesters)

Extracurriculars:

  • Political Science Club (President)
  • Volunteer at local medical outreach clinic

Admitted:

  • SJSU
  • Cal Poly Pomona
  • UC Santa Cruz

Waitlisted:

  • Cal Poly SLO

Denied:

  • San Diego State

I think I’m mainly worried that my application will not be considered competitive enough because I didn’t take part in enough extracurriculars or outside activities, as I mainly focused on academics. Even academics-wise, I did get 2 B’s (and I got another B this semester after I applied to transfer). I know UC Berkeley focuses quite a bit on students who branched out and were involved in other activities outside of school. Chance me?

Thanks!

After fall grades. I have gotten four B’s in total, but two of them were in honors coursework and in very challenging subjects so I addressed on my application that I specifically took the courses to challenge myself and learn something new. Do you think this GPA will hurt me? I know it is just slightly below the 25th percentile for Cal’s Poli Sci program, but I’m hoping my major prep being done,
a 4.0 major GPA, and good extracurriculars will make up for it.

@superbeewhy ^ :slight_smile:

Just got an email stating my calnet was being reinstated.

Hey guys! I wanted to drop in this discussion now that decisions are so close! I just got accepted into UC Irvine and now I’m patiently waiting for Berkeley’s decision!

Hey guys! I am impatiently waiting for my decisions and just wanted to share my stats with you. If anyone wants to share their opinion, I’d love to hear it!

GPA: 4.0
Major: Biological sciences
IGETC completed
EC: Volunteering at a hospital (3yrs +), o-chem SI (supplemental instructor), multiple subject tutor at my cc, a member of Honors program at my cc, did o-chem research (during winter)

Applied to: UCB, UCLA, UCI (accepted), UCSD

On another note, do you guys know if UCB sometimes releases its decisions earlier than the expected date?

Hi all,

What was six months became six days left and I’m incredibly nervous, so if anyone can look at my application and tell me what my chances are that’d be great.

Major: Poli Sci
GPA: 3.66 as of now, will be 3.7+ after this spring, which I indicated on my additional notes with the TAU
IGETC done after this spring with 60 units and major GPA is 4.0
Essays: pretty solid, had plenty of people edit them, wrote about how politics gave me purpose as a first generation middle eastern immigrant (moved here in 2010), and how I turned my hardships into motivation.
ECs: interned for a house campaign, worked for a city council campaign, and organized for a presidential campaign. Currently work as a Registered behavior technician, a position that I earned with Hard work. Was also a part of a few clubs.

Applied: UCLA, UCB, UCD, UCR, UCSD, UCSB
Accepted: UCR with honors
Waiting:the rest of them

I’d really appreciate honest feedback, good luck to all!

what does that mean? do you think they possibly put something on there they shouldn’t have?

Unless you have some kind of special acceptance you won’t be getting any early notifications they have a set date for a reason

Yea the do have a set date but it also says “on or before April 17”

@Pepsi1022 Are you able to sign in to your CalCentral account? If so, are there any signs of admittance (ex. a financial aid offer)?

Have you looked into finding an online class through a CC on the quarter schedule? De Anza College and Foothill College start the Spring Quarter this Monday, 4/13. It might be worth the effort to apply and find a transfer class for a couple credits so you can still be eligible for transfer!

Past trends usually indicate that Berkeley usually sends out all decisions on that specified date unless you’re in with Regents or something

GPA: 3.8
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): N/A
Job/Work Experience: 5 years US Navy.
Volunteer/Community service: N/A

Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes.
** Intended Major **: Business Administration
State (if domestic applicant): California
School Type: CCC
Gender: Male
Hooks (URM, first generation college, research, etc.):

Applied: USC, NYU, Chapman, Loyola Marymount, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, CSULB, CSUF
Accepted: Chapman, LMU, CSULB, CSUF
Waiting: USC, NYU, UCB, UCI

@tomatocultivator

I can’t login with my map login but i can login with my normal calnet.

The email i got said “According to campus systems of record, your affiliation with UC Berkeley has been re-instated. Your CalNet ID is no longer scheduled to expire.”

God, I want to be admitted so freaking bad. I cannot stop thinking about whether I should get my hopes up or not. Congratulations to people who seem to have gotten a good sign from the “reinstated CalNet ID” email!

It appears my name is also in the directory again. Please note this is just mindless speculation and has no baring on actual decisions and is just me trying to find ways to kill time.

@jaescott You can only receive this email if you have been previously enrolled at UCB (cross-enrollment at UCB extension), or possibly a summer class where CalNet is necessary.

If you have not been enrolled at UCB or UCB extension, it is impossible for you to receive this email.
