Long story short, I filed a parent contribution appeal, and they ended up TAKING AWAY half of my grant. ***?! They said it's because my dad omitted something on the FAFSA, but there isn't even a line on the FAFSA that asks for such information. They also ignored the fact that my family has 2 children in college right now... I am BEYOND livid. I find myself hating this place more and more each day. Is there anyway I can get my previous award back? I did accept my offer of admission based on my previous fin aid award ... this is like a bait and switch in some sense, isn't it?

if FAFSA is updated, that is the federal government. They determine what is a reasonable expectation from parents. The amount left for parents is based on living in a rented apartment and using public transportation, not the expenses needed to own a home, cars or other discretionary items. Not defending that, just raising the point that this may recur at any other college if the FAFSA sets a level of parental contribution they are not willing to fund by selling assets or altering their style of living.

Yeah.
The whole point of an appeal though is to say that my family can’t afford to pay my college bills and instead of helping us out or just denying us, they end up billing us more.
That’s ruthless…

I probably have to withdraw or transfer after this semester because I honestly cannot afford this school anymore :(

Yeah they took away my cal grant too, gotta love them eh.

I remember Clinton saying back in the primaries that she would turn the FAFSA form into a check box on one’s tax forms.

Never happened I presume, though I bet even if Obama proposes it, the GOP would just say no because they can.
