Has he looked at Olin?
I will pass all of your suggestions on to my son. Thanks!
UVA, UNC, Georgia Tech, and UMichigan also all are over your budget so not sure they are worth bothering with either. Merit for OOS students who are unhooked at these schools is rare. I think it’s fine to leave out the middle range of schools if he will truly be happy with Ohio State if none of the reaches work out. See what happens with the reaches that are 100% need met as long as it looks like you would qualify for some aid based on the calculators. Purdue does give some merit for OOS but it seems like less and less each year and I think it is gender imbalanced too.
Just wanted to update this thread to say that son decided against applying to UCB, but is flying home today from his interview for Trustee Scholarship (full tuition) at USC and he is quite smitten with the school!
Thanks to those who suggested USC. He is NMF, so assured at least Presidential (1/2 tuition) there. He has several other worthy admissions in-hand, but with 8 more schools to hear from, we are looking forward to a busy late March “decision making effort.”
I don’t post much, but have lurked a lot. I truly appreciate everything we have learned so far from CC and the people who share their time and knowledge here.
USC is a great school. Congratulations to you both!
congrats!
[ and you’re welcome for the suggestion to apply to USC ]
And… son was awarded the Trustee scholarship! Thanks again & especially to @menloparkmom
