UC Berkeley or NYU with Financial Aid?? Confused International Applicant here :)

Hi guys! Posted this in the UC Berkeley forum, but posting this in the NYU forum as well

I’m interested in Economics and intend on pursuing that in university. I have offers from UC Berkeley (Economics) and NYU (Economics and Computer Science). The thing is, NYU is giving me around $USD 24000 per year, while Berkeley being a public school has given me nothing. With the aid, NYU becomes $10K cheaper than Berkeley, so my parents are quite clueless and torn as to which is better. Berkeley of course has a stronger Economics department, but I don’t want to consider just that.

Can you guys shed some light on which school you’d pick? I’m also interested in Business, and there’s Haas in Berkeley during the junior and senior years but I heard it’s quite difficult to switch to Stern from the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS), NYU.

Also, where is there more flexibility? In terms of double majoring and such? And opportunities? I might want to double major in Chemistry too, but I don’t want to let go of Economics and/or Business. I heard that once you enter Stern, you’re not going to be able to major in a degree from CAS, in NYU?

Please help! Weather and environment have been considered already, so this really will be the tie breaker!

bump - it would be helpful if i had even a little insight!

I think it’s a toss up re: getting into Stern OR Haas from their respective liberal arts colleges. The streets are littered with rejected internal applicants from both schools. That said, the Haas Econ degree would be stronger, but an undergrad Haas vs Stern degree would be equal IMO.

Both schools should be quite flexible in allowing a minor in chemistry. Not sure how easy it would be to double major at either school.
