UC Berkeley Physics

Hi everybody,

So i got into the College of Creative Studies at UCSB and into UCB for physics. I know that CCS offers a lot of opportunities in terms of research, small classes, and getting faculty attention. Consequently, CCS is generally better in terms of grad school admissions. However, I also like the feel of Berkeley a lot more. Can anybody let me know whether going to Berkeley is a huge disadvantage when applying to physics grad schools because of the difficulty of getting research and attention from professors. I need to know that if I put in the effort that I won't be at a huge disadvantage when applying to grad school from Berkeley because of less personal recommendations and fewer publications.

Thanks!

The physics major is actually relatively small (compared to the other science majors) so I’m not sure where you got the idea that it’d be difficult to get attention. If anything, holding your own in physics at Cal is a huge advantage when applying to grad schools.

Dina4119 is absolutely correct. As a physics major, you can also take the H7 series instead of the 7 series, so this way you can have a class size of 60 people instead of 700+ for your lower division physics education. I am sure you will have no trouble getting faculty attention.
