UC Berkeley Sciences Po Dual BA Application

Looking for other students that applied to Le Havre as well as the other programs in Menton and Reims France.

Hi there I applied to the dual degree program too. Have you gotten an interview invitation yet ?

My D applied to the Le Havre program and had a Skype interview February 2.

for the Berkeley program ?

I applied for the Reims Campus with a degree in sociology. I had my interview a few weeks ago and got accepted into Berkeley yesterday but have no idea when the dual degree program releases decisions.

Yes, for the Berkeley Sciences Po program and was accepted to Berkeley yesterday. Still waiting for word from Sciences Po.

Was accepted to Berkeley on the 12th. Applied to Le Havre and had a dual degree program interview a few weeks ago. I don’t expect results to be sent anytime before mid-March…

Hi! I also applied to the dual degree program and I was wondering how your interviews went? Mine was not so good…

They emailed my daughter today, she’s in the Dual program!!! With the option to go to Berkeley without Sciences Po too. Hopefully both programs financial aid is good!!!

I was accepted into the dual degree program today as well! Feeling happy & relieved.

@alina003: I felt like my interview went well. They threw me a few curveballs, but I think that I managed to redirect those questions while staying relevant in my answers. The way I see it, it’s more about how you express yourself and support your ideas rather than what you’re actually saying.

@tinsoup: If you don’t mind me asking, what was your daughter’s profile like? (grades, test scores, ecs…) I’m wondering how competitive the program actually is…

Best of luck to those still waiting for answers!

@brench1815
Congratulations!!!

She would be so embarrassed by me post this info. But it’s fun to be a bragging mom.

Please post your profile too. We were wondering the about completiveness as well.

Also are you out of state? She’s from Illinois
A bit worried about oos tuition, FA will be important. She applied to 12 schools but this program was at the top of the list. Crossing our fingers it’s affordable. She’ll be heart broken if we can’t afford it.

She applied to Le Havre, but might do a NSLI-Y gap year (if selected) to learn Arabic in Morocco, which she would request a deferred enrollment and possibly request to switch to Menton. Sciences Po was cool with this, Berkeley seemed receptive.

Wow. That’s a very impressive profile!

I don’t like to advertise myself… but I’ll go ahead and share my data as well:
1 AP (5)
3 SAT subject tests (800, 800, 740)
SAT: 2260 (2270 superscored)
Passing the French Baccalaureate at the end of the year (reason for almost no APs)
Attending top New York private international high school
10 years of theater (Three prizes won at theater competitions)
Model UN & Model Congress (Prize won as delegate)
10 years of piano under the belt
Class representative (3 years running)
Speaker at TED conference
Yearbook editor
And a few internships, some community service involvement, and recreational sports to add to that list

If there’s one thing I’m most concerned about, it’s would also be out of state tuition. Luckily, the dual degree program cuts the time at Berkeley from four years to two, and tuition at Sciences Po is a lot cheaper. So already, that reduces costs of attending university significantly.

If you’re very concerned about tuition, however, you can look into applying to the Sciences Po - Hong Kong university dual degree. HKU is one of the most reputable Asian universities, and I hear Hong Kong is very student-friendly. Applications, however, might be closed by now… I’m not sure.
Although of course that would very much put the focus on learning Chinese rather than Arabic, which I am not sure fits with what you’re looking for.

@brench1815 So did they say that you pay the Sciences Po tuition rate for the first 2 years (and not the UC Berkeley’s tuition rate for all 4 years)?

Yes, that’s correct. Sciences Po tuition for the first two years and Berkeley tuition for the last two.

@brench1815
Wow! You have amazing stats. I’m glad to see high selectivity, though data isn’t everything. I believe the interview and finding the right fit is so important. This will likely be a small group of students which will get very close. So creating the foundation for a future cohesive group, which will support one another in a foreign country is vital. Students will be abroad for two years, so maturity, independence and drive are what I would be looking for if I were admissions. I’m sure you embody all these traits with great stats too- the complete package.
I want kids who might read the data you and others provide not to cross this program off their lists if their own stats do not align. I believe the admissions approach was very holistic and personal, which is great to see in such a large public university. As a parent I was very impressed.

I got an email from the head of the Dual Degree program a few days ago saying I was accepted! I still have the option of either accepting the program or just going to Berkeley depending on financial aid. Check your emails everyone!

Congrats!!! @miaaaa99
What campus did you get into and where are you from?

Yay I also got accepted! What campus did you all apply to? I chose the Le Havre campus

Also, does anyone know how many people got accepted?

Hey guys, my name is Adam. I’m a Dual Degree (with Columbia) student on the Le Havre campus of Sciences Po! We’re in charge of welcoming you on the campus. There’s a Facebook for admitted students called "Sciences Po Berkeley Dual Degree - Class of 2020 Admitted Students”
