UC Berkeley Switching to College of Engineering CS Major clarification

Hi! I’m interested in eventually getting a B.S. in EECS UC Berkeley. Would you recommend applying to L&S and later switching to EECS? Is it even possible?

Anything is possible. But switching from L&S to EECS is difficult, very difficult. It is much more difficult than getting 3.3 overall GPA in CS 61A, 61B, 70 to declare CS in L&S.

Why do you consider switching to EECS vs declaring CS in L&S?

I’d like to get a B.S. Can you please clarify what you mean by difficult? I can get good grades, but if there is a lottery system or some other form of application, I don’t what to take a risk.

Essentially, would it be easier for me to get into EECS through transferring internally or from applying as a high schooler?

I’m sorry, “difficult” is the wrong choice of word.

“Effective Fall 2017, the College of Engineering will not accept change of college applications for any of the following: EECS major, EECS/MSE joint major, EECS/NE joint major.”

Do you know the difference between BA CS (from L&S) and a BS CS (from EECS)?
